Need for Speed: Undercover Reviews

not putting out a demo of this game.If you are a NFS fan like I am you will. of NFS most wanted right down to the dialog between the dispatcher and the cops. EA games has again taken NFS to a new low.this game is a cheesy ripoff. The much cheaper pursuit breakers.EA games knew what they were doing by. be disappointed.

But not at this price. In a free market voting with one's wallet is the most effective expression of opinion - and everyone is free to cast his vote in whichever direction he seems fit. It is the method the industry's behemoths chose to pave the way for their coveted Pay-per-Play future. This is a well known scheme based on a custom-made augmented version of SecuROM 7+, used for over a year now (from BioShock to Mass Effect, Dead Space and Red Alert 3) and it has been proven to offer overall.zero protection from piracy.

It borrows into the Root of our systems, masking itself from the System Manager and refuses to be removed - even after one completely uninstalls the game it came with. Some people are indifferent to these issues - and I respect that. SecuROM is indeed used as a cloaked dataminer, gathering information on the system and its user's activities and sending them to its mothership. And who would not want its customers well informed. But, of course, fighting piracy was never amongst its aims. Games that we will have to keep paying for again and again. NEED FOR SPEED was a series I loved in the past and would love to keep playing in the future once the DRM idiocies get resolved.

My experience though taught me that most gamers would like, at least, to make well informed decisions. SecuROM is NOT a Digital Rights Management system but rather a spyware subroutine that unavoidably comes bundled with most major game releases. Yet another EA release which, gameplay and graphics problems aside, suffers from the bundled DRM scheme: SecuROM with Limited Installations. And that is where the idea of Limited Activations comes ins: not only it nullifies the value of a game once bought, killing the second-hand market overnight, but it also familiarizes gamers to the idea of having to buy the same game over and over in order to keep playing it. Turning our own PCs into their.insatiable coiners is what the gaming executives are having wet dreams about.

My only complaint is the warm tone of the video. Cars have even better detail than Prostreet. My rig can play up to 2500 x 1600 and everything turned up 6xAA/aniso. Upgrades are quick and moving from event to event is seamless. Maggie Q alone sells this title.

The sound is average, with the typical "racing music" as default and it all does a pretty good job of making you feel like you are out of control, sometimes it makes me a bit too amped so I turn the music off or down. They don't seem very persistent and I have not seen any police birds either so far which is pretty normal and should be included. In my opinion this series has never been as entertaining or as graphically amazing as the Burnout series. Another thing they could have done is include more neighborhood and tricky street layouts, it seems you are always on some perfect for racing freeway and that makes it really way too easy to both get away and win the races. The story is pretty standard but what do you want, it's about the gameplay and it works for the most part.

I want to see my car get hammered with things flying off and smoke and whatnot as well as the other cars but that is pretty limited here. I think this game has gotten the short end of the stick in the reviews, if you want a street racing game that's fun then get this, if you are looking for something else move on. Where are the roadblocks or strips. There is a good variety of available cars that look very much like the real world ones, I'm not too far into the game but hopefully there will be options you can add like paint jobs, rims and so on. One thing I wish there was more of was jumps, they are few and far between so far. Again it's recommended if you want a police/street racer and don't have too high expectations, it's a pretty standard entry with no huge advances but no hugh flaws either. The action is pretty fun with the standard methods to convey speed such as blur, camera pullback and sounds, it's been a while since I've played an NFS, like PS2 days years ago but this seems a good addition to the series.

Another thing is the sparse traffic, in such a metro area you would have the occasional traffic jam to go around and many more street lights with lots of traffic, I don't see much of that here. If you enjoyed recent games like GRID or racing games in general you'll like this, but like most games though it's not a full retail price buy. While you are driving you can hear the police radio and it sounds pretty natural and real adding to the experience. The police are really weak here as well, I have had no trouble hitting them and then outrunning 2 or more of them. I wouldn't recommend buying it at full price though, wait till it comes down, somewhere in the thirties or less. They could have put it in a smaller icon on the side of the screen somewhere where it doesn't get in the way. The cutscenes are cheesy but there are pretty nice people to look at if you get what I mean, they are not too long or drawn out either.

The car graphics are great, understandably the environmental graphics are not top notch but it's not really necessary when you spend most of your time going fast anyways. I use a logitech rumblepad and had no problem using it, I just reassigned the keys and that was it, I do get vibration feedback as well.

Another not so good thing is that you are constantly having an available race "tab" button on screen, if I want to do the race I'll let you know but it is in your face at all times until you finally just do the race, so much for exploration for it's own sake. I have not seen any weather effects yet, so far all sunny and perfect and hopefully we will get rain/wind or night racing.

I get the sense that if you have a recent NFS game then this will just be an incremental change and not worth it, kinda like if you have FIFA 08 you wouldn't think 09 was too different, perhaps a let down even. There seems to be not enough destructible things in this game and I didn't really think the damage modeling was anything special.

I'd say out of 10 it's a 7.5.

Surface streets are rarely in good shape or fine tuned for high speeds and that would make it more interesting and challenging.

It is a rip-off. This game is basically taking the Pro-Street driving engine, which stunk, and trying to merge it with a storyline similar to Most Wanted. I guess I'll have to play through Most Wanted for the umpteenth time. I was all excited that finally EA would return to the glory days of Most Wanted: police chases, open world driving, huge map, awesome graphics, great soundtrack.etc. bucks tossed into the dustbin. Thanks for nothing, EA. Sigh. I don't know who is making your product/marketing/producing decisions but they should be looking for a job after this 5 year demise of a great franchise.

NOT. There is a reason this game is only [.]. Only EA can thoroughly ruin something so fun and entertaining. In the end you get: lame, boring police chases, terrible-blurry-nausea-inducing graphics, extremely sensitive and unrealistic driving mechanics, a sound track that you disable within 5 minutes and another [.]. brand new (PC).
