Nintendo DS Titanium Reviews

Great item! My kids love to play the ds. They both have one now and it is great!

I received my DS for Christmas 2 years ago. I use it probably everyday with various games. It's a lot of fun. I take it with me to appointments, it's great to have when your doctor (or whomever else) is 30 minutes behind schedule and the waiting room is full of torn up, boring magazines from 2007. :)

I've probably dropped my DS about 20 times, and it's withstood it all until just recently. I dropped it a couple weeks ago and now there is a crack in the hinge. But that's my own fault, and I'm amazed it's lasted this long. I have 3 little nephews who always want to play with it when we visit, so it gets a lot of use (and abuse!).

There are hundreds if not thousands of DS games. Endless hours of fun and entertainment are to be had with the DS. Small and portable makes it great to take with you wherever you go. I highly recommend this product (and any newer version). I would be surprised if you're disappointed. :)

Since we received this item ithas posed a problem to us. First the item said we needed a DS card, then after your suggestion we installed the game before we started the item. Then it said we needed something else. Now the picture is fuzzy, not well enough to use. We wish to return the item for a refund. We are very dissatisfied with this item and do not recomend it to anyone. I plan to take it to a local GameStop store and see if they can tell me what is wrong with it. If I do this, I will probably be charged a testing fee by the store, but at least we can find out if it is a dud. Please be assured that we paid $80 and this is not a small amount for me. I am retired on Social Security, the money I pay I do not spend unwisely. Please be assured that we will return the item for a refund. Please let me know how to return the item. Josephine Perez

I purchased a used Nintendo DS for my 5 year old and he loves it. It's his favorite color, the graphics are great and we haven't had any trouble with it. The DS is a perfect travel companion for long trips.

Like the above says, the first generation of the DS was pretty good though it had some problems, It was an overall solid performer.

This first model DS gets points for having a tough exterior (very hard to crack the casing) although the 3 hinge setup proved to be a troublesome mistake from Nintendo, with so much opening and closing,as well as everyday abuse from youngsters, the ends of the hinge(s) would crack rendering the DS pretty much unusable. Another negative point would be that the screens only had one brightness setting! (the PSP had 3 or 4 out the gate) One thing that was a smart move on Nintendo's part was to include GBA functionality, making the transition from GBA to DS so much more easier though on a side note with no cover or no game in the GBA port the unfilled hole felt rather flimsy. One thing I personally didn't like was that the top of the case reminded me of an extended GBA SP. At the time,I was amazed that the DS had the graphical power of a N64 (hence the few N64 ports we got) I was actually disappointed that Nintendo never ported over Zelda:Ocarina of Time to the DS.

Nintendo remedied all the above problems with the release of the DS lite,it had a two piece hinge design,4 brightness settings, dust cover for the GBA slot, and improved speakers. Although IMHO the case was not as durable as the regular DS.

Nintendo again upped the ante with the DSi,bigger screens, improved speakers yet again, stronger case,etc... But,and this is a big but, they removed GBA functionality from the DSi,I can only guess they had assumed everyone who's buying a DS at this point wont care much to play GBA games.

Overall,at this point in the game,I cannot recommend the DS when there is the much improved DSi (or if you want a GBA slot the DS lite)

To summarize.

Pros:

+Durable Case
+Wide range of colors
+As powerful as an N64

Cons:

-Weak hinge
-Only 1 brightness setting
-bulky
-No accessories available at retail stores
-Overall dated look (imo)
