Olympus - Soft case for digital voice recorder Reviews
This hooks onto your belt and uses a magnet to stay closed. It fits perfectly. I find that it's better to carry the voice recorder in a case for sunglasses - the kind that's basically shaped like a tube. Since I usually carry my voice recorder in a bag with my computer, the belt loop is useless and I worry about the magnet erasing data from my hard disk.
I got this case with the DS-40 recorder. The only issue that I've had thus far is that I would like to use the power adapter with this, and since the plug for the power adapter on the recorder is on the bottom, you have to remove it from the case to plug it in. It's a tight fit like it was made for the DS-40. The case itself is quite nice and the recorder fits in it nicely. I may be able to punch a hole in the bottom of the case to plug in the adapter.
One thing to know: if you want to save as an mp3, you will have to pay a few dollars to upgrade the software, but it is worth it if you want to use it for other programs. Simple to use, and excellent quality. I have used both the built-in mic and a wired mic, both with excellent results. The recording quality was excellent, even with multiple settings.
After reading some of the other reviews, I think that one of the issues to consider when deciding if this case is for you is how many chingaderas you are going to bring along and where are you going to put them. All the best,. With that said, I like my soft case and I definitely recommend. This particular case is meant to affix to a belt or strap and give you access to record improptu events. The soft case for the DS40 works well. If you want to record stereo, phone, or other more intricate events and you want something to carry all the accessories, it would be better to go with a small military or police pack, or even a fanny pack.
Jay :) All the bells and whistles are easily accessible, except the power, which can be manipulated through the material quite easily. The magnetic closure works fine as long as the recorder is snugged in and the stereo recording attachment is removed. The belt loop is affixed with velcro, but the workmanship seems solid, so I am going to have faith.
Great case, great fit. Velcro would get dirty and if you were recording and opened a velcro flap, you get that ripping sound on your recording (you might not want that). If it were a snap button you would be pushing on the recorder every time you closed it, that wouldn't be good. If I were to make one gripe, it's that you have to take the recorder out of the case to turn it on, but thats not the case's fault, just where the on/off switch is on the recorder. If you take off the detachable microphone the flap of the case adjusts to allow an external mic cord to plug in through the top. I like the magnetic closure. Very happy with the case.
