ONKYO DV-CP702 DVD Player and Changer - BLACK

ONKYO DV-CP702B DVD Player and Changer - Silver - The ability to provide hours of endless entertainment is what sets the DV-CP702 apart from the rest. The exclusive 6-disc capability of this DVD/CD player lets you play almost limitless combinations of DVD video discs, music CDs, MP3 CDs, and even those pictures of your last vacation on JPEG picture encoded CDs. All of this brought to you from state-of-the-art 192 kHz/24-bit audio DACs and a 54 MHz/10-bit video DAC for one of the most technologically advanced carousel changers on the market. You may just find yourself staying at home a bit more often.

Take your digital home entertainment to new peaks with Onkyo's DV-CP702 6-disc DVD/CD player. Onkyo's exclusive ExperienCinema design will deliver superlative video and audio quality from a range of optical media, from DVD-Video movies to homemade recordable DVD (DVD-R, DVD-RW), video CD, MP3 and WMA music CD, and digital photo discs (JPEG CD-R/CD-RW, Kodak Picture CD). Sit back and enjoy hour upon hour of movies and music courtesy of the DV-CP702's progressive-scan circuitry, its many playback modes (including track programming, repeat play, and random play for all formats), and its ultra-quiet disc-loading mechanism.

ExperienCinema entails the use of state-of-the-art 192 kHz/24-bit audio DACs (digital-to-analog converters) and a 54 MHz/10-bit video DAC, as well as Onkyo's VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry), all of which make this one of the most technologically advanced carousel changers on the market.

Conventional digital-to-analog conversion methods reduce digital pulse noise at the conversion stage but can't remove it completely. Previously only found on Onkyo's high-end components, VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) employs a unique D/A conversion circuit to overcome this problem. Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result: a virtually noiseless, smooth analog signal, based on the digital source, that brings out even the most subtle of nuances in your music, movie soundtracks and even MP3s.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DV-CP702 will deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. A 96 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter ensures optimum decoding of all disc formats, and you can select an output resolution of either 96 or 48 kHz, depending on the input capabilities of your receiver.

The player's Last Memory function lets you resume playback from a specific point on a DVD-Video disc or video CD, even if that disc has been removed from the player (you have to put it back in first, though!).

What's in the Box
DVD player, a remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, a stereo analog audio/composite-video cable, an S-video cable, a coaxial digital-audio cable, an RI remote-operation cable, and warranty/registration information.

ONKYO DV-CP702 DVD Player and Changer - BLACK Reviews

The front panel display provides just the right amount of information without being cluttered. I have had this DVD changer for less than a year now, but I haven't had any problems with it and don't expect to. There is a great feature which allows you to mark where you want to stop playback and return to that same spot later, even after shifting discs and turning off the unit. So far I have only used it to play regular DVDs, so I don't know about JPEG or other media mentioned by at least one other reviewer. Oh - and the blue light is REALLY COOL. The remote control is one of the best I've seen, being well laid out, just the right size and with readable, positive-feeling buttons. In fact, I LOVE THIS THING. - it isn't an issue for me.

The picture and sound quality are excellent and the unit itself functions smoothly and quietly, changing and playing up to six discs flawlessly. I'll probably buy another one of these soon for another room. This is really useful when trying to keep track of several different episodes of different shows over time. One thing that could be an issue for some is that the case is wider than average (it is also pretty deep - see the dimensions and make sure it will fit) but the height is fine. I haven't tested the limitations of how far away it can be from the unit, etc.

Mine died after less than two years of very little use. One day, the tray just opened and started spinning and does not stop even if you turn it off using the power button.

Audio playback of CD's is also improved over my previous model. Since Onkyo is obviously aware of the limitations of this DVD player in presenting.JPEG file ls in a "reasonable" amount of time, I believe it has a responsibility to report this to customers in their product description, so that customers would be able to use this information in making a choice as to spending $165 for this DVD player, that it some respects cannot perform things like playing.JPEG files as good as a $60 JVC or Sony (entry level) unit is capable of doing. I've been a loyal Onkyo owner for nearly a decade, however, this experience will result in my having to reevaluate my trust and confidence in Onkyo as a viable manufacturer of consumer electronic equipment. I contacted what Onkyo calls Customer Support. The biggest disappointment is in Onkyo's inability to play JPEG files. Just purchased the Onkyo DV CP702 to replace my Onkyo CV C-601. I loaded a CD with.JPEG files, and although the Navigator came up and worked as it should, when it came to looking at an individual picture of starting a slide show, the unit scanned each picture line by line, resulting in it taking over 30-seconds for a complete picture to be displayed.

First, the remove control sensor has a limited vertical and horizontal field. I find myself having to hit remove buttons more than once to get a response back from the DVD player. There are two problems with this unit based on evaluating it for the past couple of weeks. After waiting 21-minutes to be helped, I was told by the Representative of the company "that's the way it works, and there's nothing you or we can do about it". The picture quality of the new unit is excellent, resulting primarily from progressive scan circuity. I will be returning this because dissatisfaction of the product and misrepresentation on the part of the company as to its capabilities.
