Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System Reviews

Nice. but hey, they gave me enough to cover a pretty large room and I liked it that they were color-coded. Yes, the speaker wires were a bit on the small side. I like knowing that I didn't pay too much and didn't really sacrifice that much at all. especially in a 17 x 24 room and for this price.

The subwoofer doesn't blow me away, but it sounds good to me for a movie or gaming. Big speakers. After connecting up to my Onkyo TX-SR606 reciver was amazed at the decent sound. Big box.

Not only are these speakers ultra-affordable but they are of excellent quality as well. It literally felt like I was in the game. Is there really any better deal out there for a 7.1 speaker package. I guarantee there is NO better deal out there on this same type of system. The level of sound coming from the surround speakers was what I was most impressed with.

I hooked them up to my Onkyo 605 receiver and the sound quality was immediately evident. I played Resistance: Fall of Man on my PS3 (which is 7.1 capable) and it was amazing. The "wall of sound" effect in my living room was awesome. I think not. Sure you can fork over $1000+ for a premium system but honestly, who needs to do that.

I then put the movie Speed (blu-ray) on and it was again amazing.

The speakers are also a little bit larger than they look in the pictures and the sound they produce rivals the towering, bulky speaker systems. The trick though is the correct placement of the speakers for you to get true surround. I hooked them up to my Onkyo 7.1 receiver and it automatically callibrated the speakers. These speakers are awesome.

They look nice and sound great. Bought 14 gauge wires and would recommend upgrading the wires since the ones included are really cheap. Very satisfied with these speakers. Would highly recommend these speakers and any Onkyo product. With the larger gauge wires, the sound is amazing.

I like their looks because they are classic and not flashy. And buying 7 speakers and a subwoofer can quickly cost you over $2000 dollars. The speakers are well made in that they have wood cabinets. They are functional looking with black wood grain cabinets and removable covers. The Onkyo SKS-HT540 use spring clips as connecters, which don't give the best possible sound, but few speakers in this price range offer banana clips. I have them in a cramped little apartment, but I love them anyway. And I mean large.

Get them now. Very worth it. Check out their review). Another feature of the Onkyo SKS-HT540 speakers is that they are large. Oh and the included subwoofer cable is kind of short (8ft). These would not be too small to be used in a huge great room.

I've heard musical instruments I didn't even know were there in my music while listening on these speakers. The Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 speakers are neither stylish nor ugly. So if you want an affordable surround sound system these speakers are it. Despite the fact that these speakers were originally part of a HTIB they are of surprisingly good quality for the price. This is where these speakers really shine.

I wanted quality over looks. (And Cnet agrees. on these speakers. Read up about materials and you'll learn this is great; most HTIBs and speakers at this price are usually made with plastic cabinets. These speakers are the best quality sound you can get for the price. The subwoofer is huge and provides plenty of sound for a room of up to 800 sq feet. Guns and explosions sound insane.

I mean it. Few DVDs or Blu-Ray discs take advantage of 7.1 yet, but many games do. Once you realize, Home-Theatres-In-A-Box (HTIBs) just won't do because their sound quality is mediocre at best, you realize that separate speakers and AV receivers run the gamut from reasonably expensive to unbelievable. You need large speakers to produce fuller, deeper sound and these have no trouble doing that. I bought an extension for about $5.

They are powerful and the sound they produce is realistic and varied. I'm an audiophile and I'll admit there are much better speakers out there, but not for anything near this price. For speakers, I wanted reasonably priced quality. If you're going for styling in your speakers to match your decor, look elsewhere.

These speakers don't try to look trendy, they just produce great sound. Overall, the Onkyo's give surprisingly clear, deep, and rich sound for the price. Sure there are speakers that give better sound, but they will cost you over a $1000. When it comes to low-to-medium priced speakers, stylish looks usually mean a drop in performance and sound quality.

These are very affordable speakers that give great sound. When I was looking at putting together a home theatre system, I wanted an AV receiver with future compatibility that was also fully featured (I settled on the Onkyo TX-SR605). I use my 7.1 system to play video games on my XBox 360, PS3, and PC gaming system.
