The assembly instructions are straight forward and the parts are clearly labeled. The fact that it has three vertical sections and allows you to place shelves at different heights, gives the unit a much more "custom" appearance than units that simply have shelves running straight across. If I ever run out of space, I'll definitely get another of these. When applying the cardbard to the back, the unit is lying face down and the base is deeper than the top. While I generally don't like products that have you nail a cardboard backing to keep the assembled product from twisting, this unit has hardware to secure the top to the wall, which provides the needed stability, so you aren't relying solely on a cardboard sheet. One caveat. don't be tempted to lean on the unit since the joints between the top and bottom sections are not designed to be stressed in that direction. Once assembled, it is quite sturdy for its intended use.
I threw mine in the trash three hours after it arrived at my door. Trust me. This product is the original source of the term 'Chinese junk'. Customers be aware. Some have been excellent, some horrid. It wasn't even worth my time returning. If you're listen Amazon folks, take this thing off your roster of goods immediately. I have had more experience with media storage than the cross-eyed people who gave this abomination a high rating.
I have been through about 30 CD racks of various configurations. The Oskar 756 CD/DVD Maple Cabinet claims the dubious honor as the worst piece of st to ever be sent though the mail by Amazon. I only wish I had handed the $88 I paid for this flimsy piece of crap to a homeless person. I own about 5,000 CDs collected since the day they began to replace vinyl.
I am a wimp. I did this with no power tools the first time but I was happier when I used a power screwdriver on the second. These with their narrow and adjustable shelves were just the thing, and the light (vinyl) finish reflects light and makes reading creased paperback covers easier than on a deep dark colored shelf. I bought several of these to create a library for my paperback books. For those who cannot afford the very rare hardwood shelves that are sized for paperbacks, these are pretty good alternatives. I could wish the units were a little more stable.
They come with wall anchors but my library is in a concrete basement so I have solved that problem by putting weighty things on the bottom shelf which also keeps my books away from the slim chance of water damage from a backed up drain. "Regular" bookcases are designed for large hardbacks with deep and tall shelves. I found the 60# boxed units to be heavy but I managed with some creative sliding and shoving. It took me 90 minutes to assemble one unit, and another 15 to put in the shelves (and change my mind and move the shelves).
This is an excellent multimedia organizer that is sturdier than others I've had a chance to put together. I made the gaff of not measuring my available space correctly before I completed it but that's my error. Otherwise this product is highly recommended.
Other than that it was shipped quickly and it stores everything you could think of and more. The only down side is that the backing comes in two pieces. I would suggest that if you were looking for something to house your media that this is the product for you. This product was extremely easy to put together it took about and hour. It came with many shelves and is extremely flexible to match your shelving needs. I am very pleased with the price, ease and reliability of this product.
