The DSmobile 600 is a direct replacement for the DSmobile USB but provides higher resolution, high-speed USB 2.0 interface, and additional software that will enhance and simplify your scanning needs.
Weighing in at less than 12 ounces and measuring just 11 inches wide, the Pentax DSmobile lets you carry around all you need to scan everything from a business card to an 8.5 by 14 inch document. The scanner draws power from its USB interface so no clunky AC adapter is needed. Bring it along with you and you can instantly transmit a printed page via email, fax, or the web. The scanner has a hardware optical resolution of 300 dpi and the included OCR software automatically converts the document to editable text. The scanner uses a Contact Image Sensor (CIS) to achieve its smaller volume and lighter weight, and also requires less power consumption and lower maintenance than a traditional CCD. The DSmobile has few moving parts, which promotes high reliability and nearly maintenance-free operation. It consumes only 0.2 watt of power in standby mode and a maximum of 2.2 watts of power when scanning. Saw it at the Dr's office and told myself I need to get that. I really like it. It works wonders with scanning directly into a file.
My employees have been having problems with the scans being light colored and can't seem to get the software to work correctly to make a pdf file that opens at the correct scale on my end. It should be used for scanning items that are much shorter in length. This type of scanner is not adequate for 30-40 pages at a time. At any rate, it's fine for short scans and technically savvy end-users, but is not a miracle product. I purchased Pentax scanners for my employees to submit their commercial building surveys while in the field.
I use this product to scan receipts while I travel. It works flawlessly and fits easily into my computer bag.
The scanner packed neatly in my laptop bag. The only disappointment was scanned pictures are not in color. Since it does not have it's own power cord, there was one less cord to pack and untangle. I used it recently when visiting my mother to help her organize her paperwork. I was able to scan birth certificates and other important papers for safe keeping. The Pentax DSmobile 600 scanner is perfect for traveling.
I also bought the "Yep." software to scan and manage my PDFs. This scanner works great with my mac. I've scanned hundreds of pages so far and it works great.
