Pentax K10D 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with Shake Reduction and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens

The PENTAX K10D digital SLR features an array of PENTAX innovations including 10.2 effective megapixels and a PENTAX-developed Shake Reduction (SR) system that effectively offers a 2.5 to 4 stop advantage for sharp, blur-free images even under difficult shooting conditions, such as macro and telephoto photography or low light settings without a flash. Also featured is a newly developed Pentax Real IMage Engine (PRIME) designed exclusively for PENTAX digital SLR cameras to produce well-balanced, true-to-life images. PENTAX also incorporated a new high performance 22-bit A/D converter to quickly transfer images with accurate color tones and richer gradation from the CCD to the imaging engine. The new Dust Removal (DR) system incorporating PENTAX-original Special Protect (SP) coating helps keep the CCD surface dust-free, and adds a shift mechanism to shake dust off the CCD. All this is housed in a dependable dust-proof, weather-resistant body construction featuring 72 seals throughout the camera to allow photographers to continue shooting even in dusty or rainy environments.

Pentax K10D 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with Shake Reduction and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens Reviews

-V - e - r - y sturdy feel. -Easier definition of picture style. -Picture quality great. When this model was initially introduced, it was the best bang for the buck:. -All the unique Pentax options (especially hyper) plus driving the ISO. -"Live" view (sort of).

I've had it for two years and only qualm I have is that it's larger and heavier than my *istD. -Takes all Pentax lenses (including screw mounts with an adaptor) and adds its anti-shake mechanism to each. Note - some of the quibbles have been fixed with the later, 40% more megapixel, K20D:. -Picture quality at higher ISO.

An amazing well built camera with a great set of features. Well worth the price.

the size of K10d is alright. Focus speed is a little bid slow. The only drawbacks low light performance is not as good as C and N. Also the auto WB is not perfect. Overall, it is a good DSLR. I tried Canon xt and xti before but both are small and don't fit my big hand.

and it provided powerful manual adjustment for your catching pictures. But you can adjust to get it right manually. K10d is a really good camera. I hate Canon and Nikon because they refuse to add Shake reduction function on the camera body so that they can sell SR lens at higher price. The kit lens is also very good as basic lens. The Body SR function makes every lens perform very well when you hold it with shaky hands.

Shake reduction works even with my old prime M series lenses. The battery life is much better than expected. Pictures are great. I've had mine about 7 months now and have used it for family, outdoors and night sky pictures. I have two autofocus D lenses (18-55 and 50-200) and use these most often, I like taking pictures with older manual focus lenses when I have the time. For Pentax accessories, I have a second battery and the wired remote and I'm very satisfied with that so far. I'm still learning and appreciating more and more every time I use the camera.

Since I already owned a previous Pentax SLR some of the lenses I already had worked with this camera so that is a bonus feature and part of the reason I went with this camera. Its fast, sturdy, waterproof and takes great shots. With the proper lens this camera can do everything that the big boys like Nikon and Canon can do. It has so many features sometimes I have to get the manual out to remember how to use them. This camera will function as a point and shoot but I would not recommend this to a complete amateur. I've printed out some photos so far up to 8x10 size and they are as crisp as you can get and that is using the stock 18-55mm lens that came with the camera. I have yet to purchase a quality prime lens to test but if the stock lens does this good, I have no worries.
