PHILIPS Hi-Def 1080p Up-Conversion Multi Region Codefree DVD Player with DivX HDMI and USB. Plays PAL/NTSC DVDs From Any Region. Remote Included

High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) The DVP-5982 features an HDMI output, capable of upconverting video signals to 720p/1080i and 1080p. This technology enables the DVP-5982 to carry high-definition audio and video information through a single cable and achieving the highest quality picture and clearest sound available. Progressive Scan The DVP-5982 is a progressive scan DVD player, capable of scanning an entire video frame at once; scan-lines commonly associated with interlaced video are drastically reduced. The result is a spectacularly clear image with no motion artifacts (stair-stepping), and details so sharp they seem as if they're etched onto the screen. Built-in Multi-Channel Decoders The DVP-5982 has built-in processors to handle the multi-channel decoders for Dolby Digital and DTS surround-sound, capable of advanced 24-bit processing and an outstanding sampling frequency of 192KHz. DivX Ultra Home Theater Certified DivX is video compression software which enables high quality video to be compressed into very small files then downloaded onto CD-R or CD-RW and played back with very little loss of quality. Multi-Format Player Don't worry about limited playback capabilities, the DVP-5982 plays DVD Audio/Video, DVD-R/W, DVD+R/W, CD, CD-R/W, SVCD, DivX Ultra, MP3, WMA, JPEG, HD-JPEG and TIFF. High-Performance Outputs With playback specifications that meet the standards of professionals, the DVP-5982 features a component video output for high-resolution low-distortion video playback, and a coaxial digital-audio output for high-quality audio playback. USB Direct Just plug your device into the USB port on your Philips DVD system. Your digital music and photos will be played directly from the device. Now you can share your favorite moments with family and friends. Parental Control

PHILIPS Hi-Def 1080p Up-Conversion Multi Region Codefree DVD Player with DivX HDMI and USB. Plays PAL/NTSC DVDs From Any Region. Remote Included Reviews

I hooked it up to my 65" Mitsubishi LCD HDTV via an HDMI connector (not supplied) and every PAL disc I've played is crystal clear, sharp and detailed, with no video noise or distortion. I have yet to find a disc it won't play and the up-converted picture quality is as good (or at least nearly as good) as the up-conversion on my $400 blu ray player. This unit doesn't have all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a high-end player. I bought it because so many movies I like are available in other regions of the world and not in the U.S. I was really dubious about the quality of this unit, but bought it anyways. But it does a great job in delivering all the basics and it even has a few features I didn't expect (like digital zoom). In fact, I liked it so much that I bought a second unit for the bedroom.

TVs none here. I've had some issues with Philips in the past, but they did a nice job on this unit and at a very reasonable price. I wanted something to up-convert regular DVDs for my Vizio HD set and I didn't want to spend the big bucks on another blu ray. I'm watching old favorites I haven't in seen 20 years and they look better than ever. I've heard stories about problems playing PAL movies on U.S. For example, if you're looking for high-end audio you probably won't find it here.

But now I can order those discs from Amazon UK in Region 2 format. For instance, I love the films of British comic actors like Alastair Sim and Will Hay. First, I just purchased my first high def television. I will second that. The second goal was to get a player that would play discs from any region. It hasn't broken but it definitely feels delicate.

This player does an outstanding job of this. Apart from this caveat this is close to a perfect player. The difference between DVDs played on that player and this one is striking. [.]. I'm a big lover of British cinema.

I will add that one reviewer mentioned how flimsy the disc tray is. Although I plan on buying a Sony Playstation 3 in the very near future to play Blu-ray discs on, I own several hundred older DVDs that either cannot be replaced or that I couldn't afford to replace even if Blu-ray alternatives are available. You can find only very little Sim and absolutely no Hay in Region 1 format discs. I got this DVD player with two goals in mind. I've retained my former DVD player because it is a DVD player/VHS player.

So I wanted an Up-conversion DVD player that would maximize the potential of the discs I already owned. All those films I saw ages ago in various film societies will now be available for me to own.

DVDs look great. Definitely use it with an HDMI cable. This DVD player plays DVDs from any region. I would definitely recommend buying this. With HDMI and HD TV, the player does a great job of upconverting the picture to high definition. This is a great deal.

Play PAL and NTSC DVD's, upscales output up to 1080p. Small slick DVD player. Does all as promised.

This is great. I really can tell difference compare to regular progressive scan DVD players. Single HDMI cable is the great way to reduce cable clutter. Plays Divx files. I even was able to attach USB card reader to play digital picture from camera on TV.

I do not need DVD burner to move files to DVD player. 8gb flash drive will do it. I have tones of international staff downloaded from the Internet, now I can enjoy on 52' tv. Plays files from USB flash drives. Firmware of DVD player is upgradeable.

The tray open/close has a little lag. All-regions, multi-formats. And it's sleek and stylish. The only area that can use some improvement is the system could be more responsive. It's a DVD player that does it all.
