Philips MCM240/37 Micro Hi-fi System Reviews
I don't think you can beat it for under $100. All buttons have a high quality and consistent feel. Presets are very nice and easy to use, along with the auto programming feature. crystal and sparkling come to mind. An added bonus is a extra bass button and 4 or 5 pre-programmed equalizer modes.
I never really figured how to use her Sony shelf system. My only wish is for a recessed handle on the back, or top, to make it easier to move with one hand. Classic, Pop, Jazz, Rock and maybe one more. Piano music sounds outstanding. The sound quality is outstanding for a shelf system. The FM tuner sounds particurally good and has good separation.
This makes it convienient to use from either room with the very user friendly and thin remote. It looks really sleek and modern. The sound is very clear. It has good bass, without distorting, but if you want something that will shake the wallls, this is not it. We put it in the kitchen but with "line of sight" to the family room. Have to use two hands to pick it up an move to another room.
The unit also comes with screws, mollys and a template to mount on the wall, if your prefer. This is so much easier to grasp than the bewildering array of buttons scattered around the sides, top and front of so many units today. Also, all the controls are buttons, round are retangular and slightly recessed to make for a very clean look. The remote has good range, at least 20 feet. Very nice unit.
Makes for a very nice departure from the array of sliders, knobs, buttons, etc., found on many other units in this price range. I bought this for my wife to replace a Sony whose CD player stopped working. AM sound is clear. Comes with decent FM and AM antennas and includes Aux and Headphone jacks. The Phillips has placed all the controls front and center and layed them out in three, logical groups.
One of the real benefits of this unit, is the ease of use. not sure that's the right term, but the stations do not overlap like they do on many inexpensive systems.
I bought this for music in my toddlers room. Is easy to use. For that purpose I think this is fine. Takes very little space. For any other purpose I would say this is an extremely under powered system. Its cheap so if he breaks it I won't vent as much :-).
I won't ever buy another Philips product. The first remote worked for about 8 months. I'm awaiting the third replacement; it's been six weeks and I fully expect I won't ever receive one. Here's another example of a product that has features available only on the remote control. Once the remote quits, you are out of luck. So the unit works well and the sound is fine, but I I can't set the sleep, repeat, or shuffle funcitons. The replacement the company sent worked for two days.
i have had this stereo for several months now and i have had no problems.
I would consider this a fine unit for "casual" listening in a work room, kitchen, etc. It does the job adequately while taking up little space and blends in with the decor. I run wireless audio from my main stereo system to this unit mounted on the wall in a smaller room. Cons: "Micro" sized sound. Mine works. Pros: Looks good, works. Zero low-end (bass) response. I only tested the CD player once.
