Philips SHN2500/37 Noise-Canceling Earbuds Reviews
Pretty decent for nights that I just need to tune everything out. Good luck. I will have to give them a try when walking, but I suspect they will fall out based on my prior experience will silicon ear buds. I did NOT like them. I was really skeptical when opening this package, but have to say I am pleasantly surprised listening to them now as I type this review. OK, I tried one other pair of "in ear" ear buds.
In the meanwhile, I think these will just be my work headphones. All in all, i would definitely pay $20-$30 for these. So that translates into a free set of headphones for me :). My wife got these as a "give away" from a training class.
They kept falling out and didn't sound as great as they were touted to be. . I will say this, they sound great in both normal and noise cancelling mode.
Decent base, very comfortable in my ear and they are staying put. And, just as important, I can't hear anything else. Anyway, i just ordered a set of jbuds as well. As for noise cancelling, there are other reviews that describe the "noise cancelling" features of these headphones.
I will have a decent benchmark for comparison once the jbuds are in my hands. However, as mentioned in other reviews, I could see how the "control box" can get annoying. I will update my review if I remember.
All it does is add a hissing sound and bump the volume up a tad. The sound quality was awful, big step down from the stock iPod ear phones. The "noise cancellation" function does no such thing. Not worth your trouble. No detectable cancellation whatsoever.
An irritating sensation; feels like they're about to fall out. These headphones deliver surprisingly good sound for the price, and the noise cancelling works well.
If you plan to sit and listen, or if you're very short, these will work great. (There's the slight hiss when the noise cancelling is active, but this occurs with all noise cancelling headphones to one degree or another).
Long battery life, too. Otherwise, the absence of a longer cable and a little clip to keep the cables in place on your shirt make these otherwise good headphones pretty useless.
But the cables are way too short. At 6'+, I can't walk with these because the awkward electronics/battery enclosure doesn't quite reach my pockets.
And, inexplicably, the weight of the thin earbud cables is enough to drag the earbuds down against your ears, probably aggravated by the weight of the electronics enclosure.
I can't compare these to the big dogs but they are more than satisfactory and you don't look like you thought you were in the booth getting ready to lay down a vocal track. First it was oppressive on the flight, then I took a while to hear normally. However after my first 4 and 6 hour flights when the pilot said to switch off electronic gear I had a shocking realization. It also has an adapter for older airplane audio plugs. At this price you would have to be crazy not to get these if you are travelling. As soon as I switched off the noise reduction I got an immediate unpleasant roar of engines. I'm not sure how long a battery lasts but I got 22 hours in four flights. While it didn't eliminate flight noise it reduced it to where I had mentally tuned it out.
So I decided to try noise cancelling earphones. Being a musician phase cancelling is easy to appreciate. I haven't tried it for other things, but I think it would be good for trains too. I had just spent too much on toys and decided to try them. For those people who say noise cancelling doesn't work with these I have to wonder.
I thought it was interesting these had similar specs to $100 earphhones. In recent years trans-Atlantic flights annoyed me with noise. People who got no noise reduction didn't understand the intended use or ran the battery down or something. I switched them on when we were 10 minutes off the ground and after a bit switched them off. I started looking for something for less.
You can buy a decent large diaphram mic and studio headphones for less than that. It seems to get better the longer you wear them and they are very comfortable. Then I saw the ones being advertised were $300. I wasn't sure I was getting much benefit.
Panasonic RP-HC500 Noise-Canceling Headphones $91. I am not sure what people are expecting for the price, but I for one, was very happy at the quality of the product. What more could I want at this price. I (unfortuantely) did not buy my earbuds on Amazon so I paid more than the price that is listed on Amazon, but I still find the earbuds to be a nice value. Wow, I am amazed at the number of poor reviews on the Philips SHN2500 noise cancelling earbuds. Sennheiser PXC 350 Active Noise Cancellation Headphone (Black) $250.
5 Stars as an overall value Bose® QuietComfort® 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® Headphones $299. I have used tradition Ipod earbuds on similar planes only to find that my Ipod did not have enough "volume" to overcome the engine noise.
This clearly was not the case using my Philips SHN2500 earbuds. I was able to listen to my music and podcast with little distraction.
Sennheiser PXC 300 Noise Cancelling Headphones $150. I think you get the picture - if you are looking for a premium product they are out there, but you will have to pay a considerable amount of $$ for the added sound quality.
Are their better products on the market. One complaint - after about 2 hours the earbuds were a little uncomfortable in my ears.
Sony Mdrnc22/Blk Noise Canceling Headphone (Black) $100. Sure look at these too.
For example - I was in the last row of an Embraer 145 (A small jet which has the engines mounted near the last row of the plane), and I heard virtually no engine noise. The earbuds have good sound and EFFECTIVELY block out some of the noise aound you.
