Prince of Persia

Prince of Persia X360

Prince of Persia is set in a land rooted in ancient Persian mythology, with the Prince finding himself caught in an epic battle between the primal forces of light and darkness?the god of Light, Ormazd versus his brother Ahriman, the destructive god of Darkness. The Prince arrives just in time to witness the destruction of the legendary Tree of Life, an act which threatens to plunge the entire world into eternal darkness. Manifested in the form of 'the Corruption,' a dark substance that physically contaminates the land and the skies, the Prince must partner with his new deadly companion Elika to heal the world from the evil Corruption.

A Frightening New Enemy and a Powerful Ally
As Ahriman, the god of Darkness is released so are his minions of monstrous slaves. The most dangerous and powerful set against the Prince is known as "the Hunter." Once a human prince himself, the Hunter was raised in opulent decadence and detached from the day-to-day world. His only passion was for the drama and brutality of the hunt, but soon passion grew to obsession. After killing every variety of beast known, he grew bored and too bold. Recognizing an opportunity Ahriman appeared to him and offered a bargain, a hunt against the most dangerous beasts the world has to offer in return for his soul. Foolishly he accepted and was transformed from man into demonic beast and was hunted by men from all over the world. His all-consuming rage made easy work of the hunters set against him, but also bound him to Ahriman for eternity.

But wherever there is evil, there is also a counter balance to it. Following the defeat and imprisonment of Ahriman, his brother Ormazd, the god of Light, left the world in the care of his servants, the Ahuras, guardians of the tree of life. The Prince?s new ally, Elika, is one of those guardians. Beautiful and mysterious she is a powerful AI companion who accompanies players throughout the game. Filled with an unknown power, she will be helpful in all aspects of gameplay, including acrobatics, combat and puzzle-solving as players quest to rid the land from Ahriman's corruption.

Prince of Persia Reviews

Although this was a surprise to me for I had loved the original sands of time trilogy and had doubt about the quality potential of this game. I just loved this game. I was pleased to see that they were ready to give a different prince, more positive, charming and sympathetic, but with enough human depth to have feelings of doubts and of fear. I was pleased that the princess in this universe also had a more important like to the plot and I loved the idea that the player could combine her powers and create great combos. Even the idea of putting various discussions between the prince and the princess really gives more depth to the story. A great job not only from the producers and artists of the game, but also to Rihanna Pratchett, the screenwriter to the game who also worked on EA'S excellent Mirror's Edge. Not only that I loved the soundtrack. An excellent job they did for it gives to the game a magical atmosphere of greatness which makes the castle, in which you travel, much more impressive.

Although different from the original trilogy, a great game to play.

Not a bad game.... not a good game either... The voice acting is done very well though. There is a very present comedy element from the main character. If you are looking for easy gamerscore points, I would suggest you rent this game. I did and I have received 200 so far without too much effort.

Good points: The game has beautiful graphics the player can explore trying to get all the light seeds. The story is also new and interesting. In fact, the player can spend hours just listening to the character side conversations. If you are a fan of the series you might be put off from the fact that it doesn't follow the original story, but the game play is pleasant enough to play through so you wont be lost in future installments. The new main character also can do new things that allow something else to explore.

Bad points: Everything else is average to mediocre. There is hardly any fighting and the puzzles are pretty simple. While the sands of time allowed you to redo events making it so it was hard to die, it also took strategy to use. Now it is impossible to die. Younger and less experienced players might find the inability to die a plus, but it means that it is less fun to explore and less challenging. I might also add more annoying because in the few battles there are the enemies health just regenerates when you are close to death.

I will admit I am not finished with the game, so I can't comment on much more. However, I'm far enough in that improvement doesn't look that promising. While the game has a new story and abilities, the application of those abilities are so far not that creative. I have also not found anything really hidden yet. But, as I mentioned before, its just not as fun to explore because the abilities are not as versatile and playfully plummeting to ones death is much harder when you are saved the moment you step off the cliff (some cliffs allow you to fall farther before being saved, but if you are trying to jump from somewhere there is absolutely no chance of ending good you don't get far).

All in all it is enjoyable enough to keep me playing, but I'm hoping I don't have much longer. The game play is just not as great as the earlier versions.

I had played this game earlier. Got to buy it at an amazing price (used). Had to buy it. Amazing production qualityof the game. Have been playing it for the past few weeks. The condition of the game DVD is quite good even though it is a used game. No issues so far.

Prince of Persia is an action/adventure game, where you'll be assuming the role of `the prince' assisting the competent A.I. partner Elika, against some very unlikely odds through an archaic mystically tuned Persia. In terms of a quality adventure game, the 360 doesn't have all too many, nor much better then this to speak of. Ubisoft Montreal, masterminds of Assassins Creed, artist of the Anvil/Scimitar (gaming) engine, are the ones behind this fantastic adventure. Having a historically high key track record, Ubisoft Montreal avoids dipping into previous Prince of Persia story arks, making an entirely new adventure that will hopefully seed a new series.

If you didn't read that right, this Prince of Persia has nothing to do story wise with the popular and well recieved "sands of Time" trilogy. No worries, developers solidified core elements and capabilities from the acrobatics to much of the adventurous 'wowing' feats. Referencing former Prince of Persia titles through cleverly placed methods are always a nice reward for long time fans. Canon or not developers listening to players hypes and gripes of the past games certainly help it that much more. Now with entirely new whereabouts and plot a lot can happen...That means freedom for this title to go and touch base with nearly anything the developer pleases, which in this case is good. The last trilogy wallowed into the dark, going grim and gothic. Steering many fans and players alike away, the series went on to still be heavily appraised by critics, others felt betrayed (now we have resolution without middle ground).

In Prince of Persia you'll be using a special gauntlet capable of searing through to terrain to grace your fall. It is useful for both combat and scaling walls. Your inventory may do fine with just the gauntlet, but just doesn't feel complete without a defining sword and infinite quip reserve. Add with a partner willing to do just about anything to put closure on disaster, and you have an army of two. Magical pads offer twists on locations, from gliding to sprints that defy gravity, the prince can make use of them once Elika establishes there power. They are the kind of inovation capable of turning a dungeon into a youthful playground.

Vibrant cell shading is the force to the above statement, and with cell shading rarily done 'right' if you will this makes it so much more pleasureful. Games of the yesteryears were jagged and childish (or I should say amateurish) looking, ecspecially when tying to convey a more moody atmosphere they'd tend to rub off as a bad joke. This game sets the tones right, characters interactions and intentions are near perfectly reflected upon in nature by there region. Colors pop, but not always will your eyes be treated with such picturesque landscapes, `infected' areas darken the peripherals of the screen. Plants and objects are gloomily faded, but all can be restored.

Crossing through a dead and drought desert (as the prince), depicts what could have been a very bland game. Within a few moments the stories main premise booms, scenery changes, and cinematic qualities of the game become more apparent. Story wise it has its cut and paste moments, and that's okay. Good versus evil, like we haven't seen that enough times to know who traughts about victorious? Hmmmm...guess whose caught in the middle of it? Pretty obvious stuff so far, the variable being the 'how'. The duo must cleanse the land of evil. To do this you must scale structure after structure to find a spot capable of cleansing the land in the order you choose with limitations of course. Freedom to purify sanctems comes with the price of collecting enough of a certain item to unlock those pads I was mentioning earlier, privlegding the player to further lands.

Characters development doesn't seem to be a fitting word on what happens between the two main characters, they unfold themselves making their mental strengths and weaknesses believable, which is really interesting. Unfortunately conversation is optional and many will miss this strong feat. Without conversing, travels snaking around an entire kingdom, feel lonely and more so then not...boring.

If I don't begin filling you, the reader, in on the game I could go on about the nuances for ages. Combat is scarce, you take on one enemy at a time in a very cinematic nature, and action sequences (button at correct time in movie like timing and nature) spice battles always keeping you on your feet. Like I said earlier the gauntlet proudly displays its colors as most useful item. Main antagonist have special techniques, taking them down will require more then what your theatrical combo attacks have to offer. You and your partner can conjoin attacks for cataclysmic strikes. Aside from Elika lending her hand out in battle, she can literally lend her hand out and save you from an untimely end. No game overs may make the game sound easy and you're right, difficulty is never emphasized.

To further your cleansing strike on the lands you need to collect trivial amounts of light seeds, something Elika claims will help. To do this you need to find a already healed land and begin the gathering. This is the only real gripe in the game, progression is diminutive if you can't obtain enough. Light seeds become a nuisance long after you have collected enough, as some will lay hidden in a position just taunting you, knowing your are going to go so far out of your way to collect just one. I just thought I'd repeat the item collecting and expand upon it from earlier on as it is one of the few downers depending on the player, and I wished not to spoil all the positives with such.

No multiplayer to be spoken of what so ever because there is none, instead upon completion of the game go check out some of the extra content available for download. Bonus material will hopefully have been unlocked by some point during your travels in the campaign. Bonus material includes colorful imaginative artwork, and different `skins' (different looks) for the two main characters.

Prince of Persia was a game I lacked interest in never willing to buy it, I borrowed it, oh how wrong I was. Characters believable, interesting, and genuine in what they feel and display. Enemies whom speak with such corrosive tongues making it hard to separate there venomous speech from there similarly corrupt exterior. Landscapes influenced little by history and massively by imaginative minds.

When released in 2008 we had a handful of titles, triple-A sequels flooded the market. A comfort zone was already established by the second time around; fans of those games already knew what they wanted. To take a gamble on a completely redefined game on a past series featured on a now dated last generation console didn't seem like a profitable or likely purchase. Now that Prince of Persia has hit an all time low price, a purchase seems more then reasonable. -4 ½ stars-
