I can't say enough about how great this game is.
I really hope that this game company produces sequel as I will then have a reason to upgrade to a Xbox 360.
Never even tried the "pole-reel gizmo" but I can assure you that it must be an after market gadget and not produced by Xbox or the software creator.
I use the standard Xbox controller and have found not one problem with the game.

Every time I play this I get the urge to put my boat in the water.
I had so much fun with this game that I had to stick with it until I beat it and collected all the boats, motors, and colors. The graphics are way cool and the fact that you can't see underwater makes it even more realistic. Nice. I highly recommend this game. The bass boats with the biggest motors are so much fun to drive. This is the most realistic fishing title out there that I have found. All you see is you, the boat, and your environment above the water.
The game is easier if you already have a good amount of fishing knowledge, but the game will teach you if you're patient. This is a great game to play online with friends while chatting. You have to find good fishing spots, and arrange your tackle. This is an excellent game. I almost feel like I'm outside fishing when I play this game. It's fun just to drive your boat up to a competitor and watch them reel in the big one. There is tons of equipment, boats, etc to choose from. This is the best fishing simulation I have ever played on a console.
Instead, it is just what you might see if you went fishing yourself. Unfortunately, Pro Fishing Challenge (PFC) is horribly buggy. The A button frequently stops working after a fish is caught (you are forced to pull the controller out and push it back in). Occaisionally, the reel will not work at all. I purchased the Naki fishing reel for the Xbox along with this game (PFC claims the *only* fishing reel controller for the Xbox works with its software) but it does not work as advertised.
There are lots of lures (soft and hard) to choose from and the action is realistic. This isn't like other fishing games which are shot from the lures 'point of view'. This may seem minor but it is a pain when you can't reel while a fish is biting. BUGS: 0 stars. Your only real option is whatever grace period is allowed by the retailer. In fact, it is so irritating that I'm returning both the game *and* the controller. As with all Xbox games & accessories I have encountered, support is non-existant (calling the xbox.com numbers is a *joke* and nakiusa.com has been down for days).
By the way, the default Xbox controller controls are unintuitive and cumbersome; what fun are fishing games without the 'reel' controller. This coupled with the bugs is why I cannot recommend this game. REALISM: 5 stars. The concept here is great.
This is the best fishing game you can buy for the xbox. This is a vey fun game to play online and offline. It's a true simulation of fishing, and it does take some fishing knowledge, that the game will teach you. I highly recommend it, even if you've never fished before
