God of War: Chains of Olympus:

Before he waged war on the gods...he was forced to serve them

The third game in the God of War franchise, God of War: Chains of Olympus for PlayStation Portable is a prequel to the first two games in the series published for PlayStation 2, and true the high standards of God of War and God of War II, not only does it equal the efforts of its predecessors, in some ways it may even surpass them.

Kratos? Story
The God of War franchise tells the tragic and violent story of the warrior Kratos and his dealings with the gods. The ancient world would eventually both praise and damn the infamous ?Ghost of Sparta? as the mortal who slayed a god, but long before his battle with Ares, Kratos sought absolution from his past sins by pledging himself as a champion to the gods. These brutal crusades in the name of Olympus became legendary, but would have far-reaching consequences. In Chains of Olympus Kratos is pushed to the edge as he is ordered by the gods to journey to the very depths of the underworld after the world plunges into darkness. There he must face the most feared creatures of Greek mythology and is forced to choose between his own personal redemption and saving the ancient world from certain destruction. It is a choice that will shake the immortals from their perches on Mt. Olympus.

God of War's Epic Gameplay Comes to the PSP
PlayStation Portable has always been head and shoulders above its competitors in the handheld market when it comes to processing power, and in God of War: Chains of Olympus the PSP platform may just have reached its highest level to date. Packed with features like dramatic camera angles, epic set pieces, cinematic cut scenes, stirring audio and seamless fast action gameplay, formerly only available on console platforms Chains of Olympus binds players to the game?s epic adventure, regardless where they are when they join in the action.

Combat Moves, Both Old and New
Nearly as defining as the name of Kratos itself, the trademark sweeping attack moves of the ?Ghost of Sparta? using his weapon of choice the ?Blades of Chaos,? epitomizes all God of War games and Chains of Olympus is no exception.

Although overall the PSP has fewer buttons than the PlayStation 2 controller, developer Ready at Dawn Studios has managed to incorporate nearly all of the attack moves and combination moves from previous games in the series into this new project. This continuity in gameplay not only provides a seamless intro into the game for veteran players, but a gentle learning curve for players new to the series. Add to this new brutal combat moves and an additional upgradable weapon and you have a combat system that will engage players at all levels.

Exploration and Puzzle Solving
From the bright gates of Attica to the darkest dungeons of Tartarus, Kratos? journey and your own will take you through the dark and brutal world of Greek mythology. Here not only will your skill with the Blades of Chaos be tested, but your wits as well.

As you explore the dangers of the ancient world, players must be prepared to use their navigational skills as they press on through labyrinths of challenging puzzles. Some may be simple tests at manipulating the game?s environment to your advantage, while others much more difficult also requiring precision timing of moves, but each will be different and test you in new ways.

An Evolution in Franchise History
More than just a missing piece in the history of the God of War franchise, Chains of Olympus also serves as an evolutionary link between the origins of the God of War franchise and its future. Originally developed for PlayStation 2, the future of the franchise is slated to make its arrival on PlayStation 3 in the form of the highly anticipated God of War III in the not too distant future. Not only is PlayStation Portable designed to work in unison with PlayStation 3 in many ways, but both long-time fans and newcomers to the series who choose to watch and play Chains of Olympus carefully may very well pick up clues as to the direction the franchise will be heading in with God of War III.

Regardless, whether you find yourself playing for the current chapter in Kratos? saga or preparing yourself for the battles to come on the PlayStation 3, God of War: Chains of Olympus is a must have title for any current owner of a PSP or those consid ering getting in the handheld game with one.

PSP God of War Entertainment Pack - Red Reviews

The Sony PSP 2000/Slim & Lite is a great gaming handheld. This GoW PSP is, imo, one of the best PSP Bundles you can buy nest to the Dissidia and Ratchet & Clank Bundles. The PSP is very "lite" compared to the older version and is slightly faster for some, if not most games. It has portable versions of console games such as God of War (duh), Syphon Filter, SOCOM, etc. It also has downloadable games in the forms of digital forms of console games and the new section of the PSN called PSP Minis which is growing. The PSP is also a multimedia device that is good for what it can do. Remember though that it IS a gaming handheld, and that is it's primary goal. So, let's get to it!
Games/Gaming:
The Game Library is not huge but it has some great titles from JRPGs to FPSs. Also, with a large memory stick you can download games from the PSN which is actually growing in PSP only titles. Most games transfer well to the PSP and some originals work great with the system layout. And might I add the graphics are great for a handheld! Some Downsides though are that analog stick/nub might feel strange. It feels like you're moving the stick horizontally left, right (which you are) instead of rolling it like a PS2 controller. Racing games could make this a hard thing to look past. Also, the lack of two analog sticks and two more shoulder buttons can cause some games to have awkward or even idiotic controls. Other than that it is an AMAZING GAMING HANDHELD!
Music:
You can listen to MP3, ATRAC, MP4, WAV, and WMA music files. The sound quality is great no problems there but the speakers are not so loud so make sure to bring earbuds. There is also the new SensMe program on the PSP that sorts your music into playlists based on their rhythm. It looks like a mimic of the IPod album art scrolll thing when playing music. However, in order to get it to recognize your music, you need to run each song in a MediaGo program on your PC. It was time consuming so unless you really are int that thing, don't bother. Also, there are set equalizers such as Jazz, Rock, etc. It does what an MP3 player is supposed to do, play music
Videos:
You can watch MPEG-4 and AVI videos on your PSP. Converting video files is not that hard if you know where to look. The PSN has a video section with a nice selection of movies, TV Shows, etc. for your viewing pleasure. You can either rent them or own them (ie acquire a license to use the file). The screen is perfect for this because it is very large for a handheld device. It is a good device to watch videos only if you know how to work the file conversions.
Photos & Networking:
Photos can be viewed on the PSP and...yeah you can play a slideshow of them, set them as your background, and yeah. SO lets move on to networking. The PSP can connect to the internet via WiFi connection. It's browser is...meh. It can go to mobile websites great but when a full website is attempted, you will constantly be given a "too much memory" error causing you to delete the cookies, etc to get it to load. You can check email, facebook, yahoo, etc without too much of a problem. No flash support though so no youtube. There is also an Internet Radio but it has trouble connecting to stations and an RSS Feed with is almost like a podcast channel. I will say this though, do not expect/use the PSP for regular browsing. It is too frustrating and slow but will get the basics down. It's a gaming console for crying out loud. But yes it can browse the internet!

Overall, the PSP is a great device any gamer who likes handhelds should have. People who love gaming but are on the go 24/7, I recommend getting this. It is a great gaming handheld with a plethora (ha) of games from puzzles to GoW! It can also be a Music & Video Player and a severely limited internet browser. If you want a good gaming device, get the PSP, the extra media tools are greta little extras.

I have always been a fan of the God of War video games for PS2 and never planned on getting a psp until this came out. Although since it's for a handheld system the game is not as involved with puzzles and stuff as the ps2 but this is a must have for any action gamers or fans of the God of War saga. I've had this for months and i still pick it up whenever i'm in the mood for games.
