RCA RP5400 Smart Snooze Dual Wake AM/FM Clock Radio Reviews
This is the best alarm clock I have ever owned. It is small so it takes up very little space on my already crowded night stand. The soft green light is pleasant and not distracting in the dark like some clocks I have owned. It has two alarms that are very easy and quick to set, much more so than my old clocks. It wisely allows any of the buttons on the clock to be used as a snooze button so that you don't have to fumble around in the dark trying to find the right button when the alarm goes off. However, the true beauty of this clock is that it has two features that set it apart from any clock I have ever owned: The first is that the alarm starts off very soft in volume and gradually rises in volume if you don't turn it off. This is perfect if you are sharing a bed with someone who doesn't have to get up when you do. I always hear the alarm as soon as it goes off but, it is so soft at first, my wife does not hear it and so isn't awakened by it. There is never any danger of sleeping through the alarm because it will slowly increase in volume until it gets quite loud after about 20 seconds or so if you don't turn it off. This is a great feature. The other great feature is the Nap alarm. This allows you to leave the two alarm settings untouched and, instead, sets a timer for how many minutes in the future you want an alarm to go off. It is perfect for taking a nap without playing around with the regular alarm settings.
I do not use the radio portion of this clock so I cannot comment on the performance of that feature. All of the other features on this clock are excellent and I would highly recommend this clock to anyone.
I had to get another alarm clock. The tuning drifted terribly (they haven't improved this in the past 20 years?) and was beastly hard to try to re-tune, because the tuning dial is so small. I gave up on it.
Bought this for my mother who is in a nursing home recovering from surgery. Thought it would be nice for her to have a little music and see the time. The light on clock did not work from the start. After a couple of days use my mothers nurse came in and smelled burning, the clock/radio was very hot to the touch.
This is a great clock-radio. Just the right size....not too big...and one that's quite easy to use. It has good sound quality, and one of the nicest features is that the beeping alarm starts out quietly and gradually builds up to a much louder tone. It doesn't jar you out of your sleep like so many other alarms I've tried. I would definitely recommend this clock-radio, without reservations.
This clock radio does one thing as advertised, it takes up little shelf space. That's about it. And it is easy to use, because there aren't any features on the thing.
They built better clock radios in the 1970's.
If you wish to sleep to the radio, have fun trying to turn the volume down low enough so that is doesn't affect anyone else in the room; the sound cuts out right when the volume gets to just about the volume you want. And if you want to change the radio station, have fun doing that in the dark; the radio AM/FM band switch and dial locator (to switch stations) are located on the side of the thing. Why is radio station 95.7 past the 96 marker on the FM side?
It was a terrible buy. Might serve it's purpose as a travel clock or for a hunting trip, but as a true home everyday convenient alarm clock, zero stars.
