RCA RP5640 CD Clock Radio with Auto Time Set Reviews
This is one of the few items I purchased without reading the reviews. THAT WAS A BIG MISTAKE!!! If I would have read the reviews, I would have been aware that the CD does not play MP3's, as advertized. I can't say if Amazon or RCA wrote the ad copy for this, but whoever did is a bare-faced liar and cheat!
Other than the CD player not playing MP3s, the ergonimics on this device is about as bad as one can get. It is very clutzy to use.
I am most disappointed.
This clock has many features on it. It is modern with the slide front cd loader. It has several colors to choose from for the clock. It is an auto dimmer so that the light doesn't bother you while you try to sleep-it is still bright with some colors but not as bad as most clocks. The Nap feature is awesome...Dual alarm and battery back up. Everything we were looking for in an alarm. The sound is great and it has pretty good reception. It is also neat that it has T.V. channels and a quick weather button...The weather button doesn't work in my area (bad reception I guess) but it could work for you. Had no trouble adjusting time and it is pretty easy to figure out. The only thing I don't like about it, is the audio-in button-It was hard to figure out how to get that off-and it is in the wrong spot-it is on the top with the nap and sleeptimer buttons. All you have to do is hit the off button located at the bottom left corner of the clock. It is an easy fix, but couldn't figure it out right away-Not one to read manuals either!
This is a nice radio. I had searched and searched for a radio with digital FM tuning, and I found this one on Amazon.com and ordered it. For the most part I am pleased with the radio. The instructions aren't the most user friendly, but if you'll take a few minutes to absorb, it comes to you. The only complaint I have with the radio is the fact that the FM antenna is built into the power cord, and it will only pick up "strong" local stations. Unfortunately, my listening preference is for a station that isn't a strong local station, but rather than return the radio, I've tuned to another station, of which I'm not nearly so fond. Good luck with yours!
I received this radio as a gift. The fuctions and design were good. The display was very bright even when adjusted all the way down, I found it necessary to cover it up at night. After about one year it completely died and after several calls to RCA (actually audiovox) I finally gave up trying to get the parts or specs to repair it. Very bad support. It would have cost me almost as much as the radio to have them work on it. DONT buy this product.
This unit does everything the description claims except play MP3 formatted discs. Currently I go to sleep listening to a MP3 playlist with a $20 MP3 player that's connected to this with a 1/8 inch stereo audio jack, but this means I have to recharge the MP3 player every day. Also I have to really crank up the volume on the MP3 player and the clock radio in order to hear any sound at all (this is probably the MP3 player's fault).
My next clock radio will probably have an IPOD dock and I'll buy a cheap IPOD to connect to it.
