Resident Evil: Code Veronica X

A port of the Dreamcast hit, the PlayStation2 version of Resident Evil: Code Veronica X offers the same fantastic survival-horror adventure with some improvements in the graphics department. This update also includes some nifty bonuses: 10 minutes of additional cutscenes and a demo of Devil May Cry. Taking place after Resident Evil 2, the game puts players in control of Claire Redfield as she continues to search for her brother and investigates the ominous Umbrella Corporation. Players also occasionally play as a partner character during the hours of puzzle solving and zombie killing. Parents should take note that this is an M-rated title filled with blood, gore, and violence.

Though the game's outstanding graphics are even better than in the Dreamcast version, the camera is still annoying. The jerky and awkward controls--a problem throughout the series--add to the player's frustration. Despite these problems, this is still one of the best of all survival-horror games, and a fine specimen of interactive storytelling. But veterans of the series will find nothing new and will be irritated by the same old problems. This game is best for players with limited or no experience with the series. --Raymond M. Padilla

Pros:

  • Awesome cutscenes
  • Compelling story
  • Devil May Cry demo
Cons:
  • Awful control scheme
  • Troublesome camera
  • Tedious puzzles

Resident Evil: Code Veronica X comes with a bonus playable demo ofDevil May Cry.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X begins as Claire Redfield leaves Raccoon City for the European headquarters of the Umbrella Corporation to search for her brother Chris and solve the mystery surrounding Umbrella Corporation's dreaded biotoxins. She is captured during her investigation and sent to a prison on a desolate island.

In Resident Evil: Code Veronica X, players control Claire at the beginning of the game, and later assume the role of Chris Redfield in their efforts to halt Umbrella's devious plans. One of the many features that make Code Veronica X different from previous Resident Evil games is the Real World System (RWS). Now when Claire affects changes to her environment (opening doors, solving puzzles, storing items), those changes remain while you play the second half of the game as Chris.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica X contains never-before-seen footage that focuses on battles between Chris and the enigmatic Wesker, and sheds new insight into the ominous Resident Evil story line. To her horror, Claire discovers Umbrella Corporation's insidious activities are not isolated to the remote Midwestern city. Flesh-eating zombies, horrific beasts, and even stranger mutations have spread on a global scale. Just how far does this twisted conspiracy extend? Nope.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica X Reviews

This game is designed along the same pattern as all other Resident Evil games. All T-Virus infected monsters look good. If you are looking to get into the series, I suggest starting at an earlier game. This game should keep all you adventure/horror types occupied for a week or more. Story- 10/10. That does not last long though. This is probably my favorite line-up of any game in the Resident Evil series.

After the events of Resident Evil 2 take place, Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy join an Anti-Umbrella corporation. The camera angles return in this game. This is part of the original style game that us Resident Evil fans love. Resident Evil- Code Veronica X. I have not played the Dreamcast version though, so I will not comment on the differences.

The backgrounds are better than they have ever been. These are short, but are entertaining. Who buys games for graphics anyway. Graphics- 7/10. Remember that this is a Dreamcast Port. However, the camera now moves with you through an angle, which could prevent you from feeling ill or running into the undead.

Umbrella has been created Bio-Weapons, in which animals or humans injected with the T-Virus. Voice acting in fantastic. While in a firefight, you will hear intense music. Claire Redfield escaped and is now in search of her brother, Chris Redfield. He will go down as one of the most annoying characters in the series.

The PS2 version I am reviewing is not very different. To save ammunition you will find yourself cutting out the kneecaps of zombies. There is a contamination and you need to escape the chaos. The bosses in this game can be hard, with or without a guide to help you out. Code Veronica X is probably my second favorite in the series, following Resident Evil 2. Claire goes there to search for him.

Alexander Ashford brings an extremely disturbing element to this game. Gun sounds sound decent, but not realistic. I am saddened by the absence of the Licker, but the Hunter more than made up for it. The game is easy.if you know what you are doing. Difficulty- 8/10 (Note- This is how much I like the Difficulty). I promise all these characters flesh out the story insanely. Sound- 8/10. The island is attacked by an unknown source, and has leaked the T-Virus subjects.

Anyone who loves the Resident Evil series already owns this. You can play as Chris and Claire at first, but can also earn other characters to use. Well, little does that idiot know, Claire has some experience in these matters. He has plenty of personal issues, and takes it out on anything and everything. Claire is set free and told she will probably die anyway. The sound effects are not perfect. You will also meet many other disturbing characters like a cross dressing psycho, a T-Virus infected man from a previous game, and a supposedly dead girl. Each one is unique and gives you a different feel.

I would suggest Resident Evil 1 or Resident Evil 2 before purchasing this one. I am one of those people who love this style of gameplay. Due to the fixed camera angles, you never miss special items and always get a great graphical background. This game is a port from the Dreamcast version named Resident Evil- Code Veronica.

If you hated those games, you will hate this one. Chris went to the Umbrella HQ in Europe. Pick this one up with an open mind that it is a completely different game. Gameplay- 9/10.

Both scenarios are good length. After you have defeated the game, you will unlock this fun add on. You will play as both Claire Redfield and Chris Redfield. The music in this game is almost perfect. You will battle your way through herds of zombies trying to collect abnormal looking keys and objects to lead you to your safe departure from this island. While you are given a background on the characters, they are still characters that are established in other games.

The knife becoming more powerful creates an interesting way of evading enemies instead of risking running past them. You will also get to play as Steve at one point. The Battle Game has also been added for this game. Those of you who hate fixed camera angles are going to want to avoid this game. One key weapon that will be at your disposal is the Knife. Yeah, I spoiled a bit of the game, but you probably already knew you would play as him anyway. If you like the other Resident Evil games, minus Resident Evil 4 and first person shooter games, you will love this. If you are exploring an area there will be soft, mysterious music.

Well, if you do, you will not have any trouble enjoying Code Veronica X. All the other character flesh out the game as well. Some become Zombies and others become something else entirely. Every character can be distinguished from one another with ease. I suggest buying a strategy guide to maximize unlockables and complete the game without frustration. If you hate this series go jump off a bridge because you hate great games.

I however thought he really adds to the experience. This is the fourth game in the main series of Resident Evil. The Tyrant you face can cause you to lose your mind if you lack the right firepower. After that, you need to add this to your collection. Code Veronica X features an enormous amount of weapons to play with. You will find yourself battling zombies and other monsters, and collecting items to enhance your progress in the game. Those who do not will find themselves searching high and low to complete whatever puzzle they are trying to piece together.

The graphics are not the best, but at the same time, there is nothing wrong with them. It always matches the mood. Raccoon City had the virus unleashed on it as you may have seen in the first game. The only problem with the music is that while it always matches the mood, it is never an outstanding score by any means.

The graphics are much enhanced from the previous titles in this series. Overall- 9/10. Resident Evil 4 changed everything in a good way, but these games are still awesome in their own way. This game has more guns, a better knife, and an extra Battle Game once you finish the game.

Sub-Machine Guns, Assault Rifles, and many other cool weapons will be at your disposal at one point or another. Along the way, you will have to deal with all the psychotic characters on the island. You had it in the other games, but now it is much more powerful. Soon you will meet the reckless, independent Steve. Do not expect these graphics to be pushing the Playstation 2's processing power.

Claire is only in her cell for a bit before chaos erupts. It is known as Rockfort Island. You will go through a series of sets in an attempt to make record time. If you are looking to get into Resident Evil, this is an awkward place to start. However, after an awesome cutscene, Claire is kidnapped and transferred to a island near Europe.

All characters are shaped out nicely.

This game totally sucks majorly me and my dad were trying to play this game we got on the first level and then couldn't even get off the first level with reading the instruction manual too and cheats off of cheats codesguides.com worst game ever the first level your stuck in cell in complete darkness and keep walking around and then get no where. Oh and you can play PS1 games on the PS2 for those of you who don't know that. Don't waste your money on this there are plenty of other PS1 and PS2 games that you can waste your money on.

The game was everything my husband and sons expected. I appreciate that I was able to find this game for them. Thanks Hope to order again from you.

I also like that there are cut scenes that tell a story. When you have to move across the entire island because you forgot something, this becomes incredibly annoying. The one thing that I like about this game is the "puzzles", or having to figure out what you have to do or which item you need in order to make it to the next part of the game. Yes, there are a couple of things I like about this game. I do think this game could have been good if the controls and camera angles were fixed. Let's take this game for example. Boy, was I disappointed. I decided to get another RE game and settled on this one based on the semi-good reviews.

As mentioned already, I like that this game has you figuring out what exactly you need to do in order to beat the game. If you're interested in RE games, I'd start with the very first game and work your way up so you won't be disappointed. As mentioned above, the controls are also hard. The "puzzles" in this game are certainly not easy and I've had to look up some tips on the internet when I get stuck. And when you have zombies coming at you from every which way, it gets frustrating when you can't figure out how the heck to run away.

DARN. If you're a casual gamer and/or you've played newer RE games, I'd skip this one. I wouldn't say that i'm impatient but when you leave/enter any room, it cuts to a loading screen which takes forever to load. If I had a choice, I'd rate this game 2.5 stars rather than 2 but I don't think it's worthy of 3 stars. In Code Veronica X, it's almost opposite. Not a huge flaw but definitely worth mentioning. Mix that with aiming your weapons and it's borderline impossible to get from point A to point B.

Sometimes you're facing one way in a scene and in the next scene, you're facing another way so if you have difficulty with the controls, it's harder to figure out exactly what to do just to move your character in a straight line. A few other notable things that irritated me were the multiple zombies, the difficult "puzzles", the slow movement of the character, and the loading time of some scenes. The zombies will come at you 3, 4, or 5 at a time on occasion, making it nearly impossible to come out of a situation unharmed. And when you get hurt, you walk SO. Sometimes the camera doesn't move along with your movements so you can't see everything and (in my case at least), I missed a few items that I could've used in the game. I have Resident Evil 4 for the Wii and I absolutely loved it. One of the biggest disappointments is the camera angles. are what I like.

I'm not a huge gamer so the straight-forward controls (meaning left is left, right is right, etc). SLOW. It's not just about killing zombies. If there is one thing I've learned about video games, it's that you should never play a newer game and work your way back to older games.

This is a classic and a great game. There are some really scary moments as well as some odd twists. Haha. You have to own this game. Let's just say that people aren't who they seem to be.
