River City Clocks 17-Inch Galileo Thermometer Clock
Galileo Thermometers are magnificent creations that make Galileo's 400 year old principle of relative density a functional reality. An accurate indoor thermometer encased in brilliant glass, the Galileo is the point at which art meets science. Galileos add sparkle and focus to any setting: Galileos are precisely manufactured. Each of the liquid-filled floats weighs exactly.006 grams more than the one above it in the cylinder to ensure a stately and orderly procession of ups and downs as the temperature changes. To accomplish this balancing, the tags on which the temperature is marked are attached by had. The fluid in the floats and the cylinder has to be exactly the same density for the thermometer to function properly. The fluid is non-toxic and non-hazardous, an inert oil/hydrocarbon mixture like mineral oil: Galileos are carefully packaged. The cylinder walls are laboratory grade glass, so sturdiness isn't an issue. A four-color cardboard box sleeve surrounds a form-fitted foam case that virtually guarantees safe arrival: This fascinating, functional instrument is the point at which science meets art. Four hundred years ago Galileo discovered that specifically weighted floating bubbles would predictable rise or sink in a liquid as the temperature of that liquid is changed. These decorative glass reproductions of Galileo's discovery have glass floats precisely weighted in.006 gram increments suspended in a clear, environmentally safe, non-toxic liquid. Simply read the tag on the lowest floating bubble to read the temperature: The 17 inch measures every 2 degrees from 68 F to 80 F and is accurate to within 1.5 degrees with seven floats.

River City Clocks 17-Inch Galileo Thermometer Clock Reviews
Not digitally accurate, but so much prettier. Great packaging for shipping & fast delivery. As far as a Galileo Thermometer goes, perfect temperature reading.
It is cool gadget and draw attention from my visitors. As product detail, it comes with narrow range of temperatures (68F-80F). I don't know if manufacture could expand temp range in the future; like 66F-86F. So far, I love it. Its accuracy is very acceptable compared to a digital thermometer.
Both do a fine job of telling me the temperature in my house. Considering how long it takes accuweather to load on my dial up PC, the weather ball is the more swift herald of thunderstorms for me. I recomend these enjoyable items.
In fact, I have the 17" in my home office with my PC to warn me if it is getting too warm in the office. I purchased both the 17" stand alone version and the 11" version that is paired with a weather glass. Together, I know the temperature in the house, and I have a fairly informative old-fashioned barometer to let me know what the weather is likely to be.
The range is rather limited (68 to 80 degrees F for the 17" model and 64 to 80 for the 11"), but if it gets so hot that all the little spheres sink, it is time to turn on the a/c anyway. The 11" model that is paired with the weather glass is doing a fine job downstairs in the living room. Perhaps not the most practical weather station for home use, but fun and elegant for sure.
