Samsung DVD-F1080 1080p Upconverting Compact DVD Player Reviews

Plays most of the downloaded CD's, AVI's etc from my Mac computer. The picture is definitely not HD, but is much better than a normal DVD. Had a little trouble during set up with my Hitachi 42" plasma and a few audio problems but have worked around. The unit should serve me well, especially for older DVD's until I upgrade to Blue Ray. The unit is well worth the money.

Don't let this size or price of this DVD player fool you. The picture is outstanding, and it is easy to use. We bought it for vacations in our Airstream but like it so much we might buy another for our home. It is a superior product to all its larger, more expensive competitors.

I have several DVDs non-region1 and now I can't watch them. Don't buy this if you have DVDs from other region. This player is impossible to unlock. I'll have to buy another one that is multi-regional.

This is a great DVD player. I can tell a big difference in the movies we watch. Would recomend this to anyone. After I finally got my TV set to the right conf. the DVD player is pretty simple.

In theory, I could control the dvd player from the tv remote. It will be the same quality. not quite a design flaw, but certainly overzealous marketing. I looked very closely (inches from the screen) and could not notice any difference in video quality.

*The dvd player doesn't have an external display. design flaw. but there are many dvd players that work, and few are this frustrating or annoying. they show you how much of the movie is left, and what time it is, and all sorts of stuff. You have to mash down on the buttons for it to work.

*I wasn't worried about the remote at first, because I planned to link the dvd player and tv using samsung's "anynet" function. True, the tv remote's play/pause/stop buttons worked fine. Save your money and spend it anywhere else. I realized how much I relied on an external display - they're actually very helpful. Sure, the samsung dvd player can show you all this info onscreen if you press a button, but it's a pain. *I was all excited to get an "upconverting dvd player with hdmi connection" blah blah blah, but it made zero difference in picture quality.

I returned the product 3 days later. I bought the samsung f1080 dvd player to match my new samsung lcd. At first I liked this, because of the pleasing aesthetics and how the unit had been stripped of all unnecessary junk and all that remained was the pure essence of dvd player. Really. I would accuse samsung of deceptive advertising, except the advertising doesn't say "this product doesn't suck." In summary, design flaw.

I would rate the product one star, but to be fair, it technically "works". You can get a nice dvd player for a comparable amount, or if you really want a junky unit, go to walmart and spend $20. So I needed to keep the other remote on hand any way. It's a little cheap rectangle with little cheap buttons.

I was very disappointed. Save yourself the hassle. If you put in a dvd, it will play it on your tv. There was no improvement.

blah blah blah. In practice, this was a huge pain. My aesthetic ideals were dashed when I plugged the thing in and used it for the first time. *The remote sucks.

But some crucial buttons were missing, like the dvd menu. design flaw. I compared the samsung dvd against my old dvd player which is ~2 years old and connects through component cables.
