Overall, a good buy with an easy to use menu and great picture quality. You would think that the VCR signal could be converted into a digital signal and sent through the HDMI also, but NOT. You do have to hook up the VCR and DVD player seperately. The new one works as expected for the money spent. The DVD player didn't work on the first one I got, but Amazon was quick to make it right by sending me another.
Thinking about getting a second one for future use. When in pause mode (vcr) after 5 min it will start to play again. The player works great. The remote is easy to use, not complicated at all. It rewinds & fast forwards very fast & has a counter for the VCR when fast forwarding, it counts by the hour on the tapes.
For approximately 10 days prior to it's demise, the unit started to have difficulty moving between submenus and became very slow and sometimes noisy. Note: it broke 5 days after Amazon's 30-day return period, but started showing symptoms about 10 days before it stopped playing DVDs entirely (see below). Since I often listen to shows in Spanish or with commentary, I found it a bit cumbersome to have to go into the unit's (somewhat confusing) on-screen menu. To take advantage of Samsung's Limited Warranty, I must mail the unit (at my own expense) to the nearest authorized Samsumg repair center, two states away. My unit broke after 35 days of moderately heavy use (5-10 hours/day, DVD player only; never got to use the VCR). One final minor annoyance: there is no "Audio" button on the remote control that allows the user to easily switch between audio tracks (at least, that I could find). It also started to cause light and dark bands to appear horizontally on my TV.
It wont read any dvds I put in. One month after buying this product, and after playing dvd's for approximately four hours, I can no longer play dvd's on it. Unfortunately I threw away my warranty so I have little recourse. I would rate this product zero stars were that option available.
TO HOOK TO A CABLE ONLY. AND IT NEEDS. NO COXAIL PLUG DUMB. THEY MADE THIS COMBO WITH > NO< TV TUNER. THIS IS JUNK. SO HOW CAN YOU WATCH TV AND RECORD ANOTHER SHOW.
