Samsung DVD-VR375 1080p Up-Converting VHS Combo DVD Recorder Reviews
It's going back to Amazon ASAP. Caveat emptor. Unfortunately, when dubbing tape to DVD which is the only use I put it to, the audio and video are severely out of sync. I doubt that Amazon will reimburse me for all the trashed DVD blanks. It also got into some sort of loop finalizing the first DVD I made from a 5 hour tape. Actually, well designed and easy to use. After 30+ minutes of finalizing, I had to unplug it to stop it.
I have spent many hours struggling to get this unit working properly with inconsistent results. I purchased the unit to dub VHS to DVD and it could not do this without introducing an unacceptable audio video synchronization problem. My assumption that the current model would be as good or better than its predecessor did not prove to be accurate. I performed the "Cold Restart" again and the next copy was better, but not good.
After the recording reached the 35-40 minute range, the streams were out of sync by nearly a second. I also tried different types of DVD media, but this did not have any effect in correcting the problem either. My decision to purchase the DVD-VR375 was based largely on Consumer Reports favorable review of the previous model DVD-VR357. They suggested I perform a "Cold Restart" by pressing and holding both the channel up and channel down buttons for several seconds until the restart screen appeared. However, the problem returned when attempting to make subsequent copies. The DVD-VR375 repeatedly produced DVDs with audio and video streams that were out of sync. I tried changing many of the configurable settings on the DVD-VR375 that I felt might be related to the sync problem, but was unsuccessful in correcting it. Stay away from this unit if you intend to dub VHS to DVD.
I purchased the DVD-VR375 specifically to dub VHS media to DVD. The first recording I made after the restart produced a DVD with much better audio video synchronization. The VHS content to be dubbed was not professionally produced, copyrighted, or copy-protected content. The streams were reasonably well synchronized at the beginning of a recording, but drifted farther out of sync as the recording progressed. I can't comment on how well the hi-def up-scaling or other features work - I never tried them. I recently gave up and returned the unit (thank you amazon.com). I finally was able to get through to Samsung's technical support and explained the problem. I performed the "Cold Restart" and this seemed to solve the problem (temporarily).
The title says it all, extreme audio and video sync problem. Junk it is, back it goes. I tried many videos and target DVDs and their are all the same. It is off by 5-10 seconds in may instances. I bought this to transfer home movies from VHS to DVD.
When I tried, I was informed that the VHS tapes were copyrighted and that I could not do it. all I wanted to do was to convert my old VHS tapes to DVDs. WHy have this if you cannot convert old VHS tapes to DVDs. The customer service people I called were useless. I am very disappointed.,
It works really good. I am very pleased with my new DVD player. Delivery was quick.
