The SanDisk Sansa c250 will play MP3, WMA, WAV, and protected WMA DRM (digital rights management) music files. Enjoy the album art on the compact color screen, along with track information via ID3 tag support. The Sansa c250 MP3 player has two gigabytes of built-in flash memory, which allows you to store up to 500 songs (32 hours of playback) in 128 kpbs MP3 format, or up to 1,000 songs (64 hours of playback) in 64 kbps WMA format. Additional capacity can be added via the microSD slot. It also supports subscription music stores, for easy purchase and downloading of new music to your player. This is a great MP3 player for my son. It's inexpensive in case he damages it. And it's easy to load songs on. Drag and drop with Windows Media Player.
It's been one of the best cheap little 1 gig MP3 players I've ever used! It's super easy to use and navigate, I love the radio feature, and I use it to take voice notes all the time. The only issue I have is that I never could figure out how to make playlists with it!
It looks like plenty has been said about this charming little MP3 player. The price is about as low as it gets, sound is good, the memory is fine and the controls are pretty intuitive. My only concern is that the expandable memory port seems to be only for show. I did quite a bit of research when I couldn't get mine to accept a 2 and 4 gig microSD card and I found it to be a pretty common problem. I found that no patches or even reasons why it would not work can be found on the internet and that it isn't covered under the warranty. 2 gigs is nice and all, but in this day and age, a little more would be nicer especially if the expansion is advertised (and was a primary selling point for me).
Long story short: I love this little MP3 player but I wish I could upgrade the memory like I should be able to.
I bought my Sansa c250 a couple years ago. I used it lightly for playing MP3s but more heavily as an FM radio to listen to NPR on long bus rides. Recently the battery started not to hold a charge for very long. A little searching on the web yielded two important results:
1. The USB cable that comes with the c250 doesn't do a great job charging. I bought the Belkin Charging Kit for SanDisk Sansa c200, e200, View, Connect and Fuze and now it charges faster and more thoroughly.
2. I "upgraded" the firmware to RockBox (see [...]). The Sansa C250 is one of the best supported devices. The battery management in RockBox helped revive my aging battery. It also gave me OGG and FLAC playback support, the ability to use > 2GB MicroSD cards in my Sansa C250 V1 (the Sansa firmware supports only < 2GB), and a collection of games I can play while listening to music.
After these upgrades, I found myself using my C250 even more. I ended up buying a second battery, HQRP Replacement Battery for Sandisk Sansa C200 C240 C250 MP3 Player plus HQRP Universal Screen Protector, and a new pair of ear buds: Sennheiser CX300-B Earbuds (Black).
All-in-all, I probably spent about $40 and have turned my aging Sansa c250 in a great device that's getting more use than ever. I may buy a second one for a backup!
We bought this player for our daughter (in pink) a year ago. She has loved it and taken very good care of it, but now it will not hold more than about a half-hour's charge. It's very frustrating since the player is very good for her otherwise, but having to plug it in to charge it constantly is really too much trouble. Also, the earbuds that came with the player were awful.
