SanDisk Sansa Clip 2 GB MP3 Player (Blue) Reviews
The interface is simple and easy to navigate. I have had it for a little over a month, and it goes with me everywhere. I finally cracked, and moved on from a portable cd-player to a tiny little mp3 player. It's half the size of the regular Sansa, nearly weightless, and totally cute. The FM radio lets me listen to NPR news on my way home from work. Highly recommended for other minimalists like me. The Sansa Clip 2GB is perfect for my needs.
*However, I recommend not using Rhapsody, the music player/mp3 store that it comes with. The headphones sound better than the ones I purchased separately a year ago. If you use a Windows-PC, Windows Media Player is better and already installed. And, since I have no desire to store my entire music collection on it, 2 GB is plenty of room (33 albums added so far, still room for more).
Loading music onto it from Windows Media Player is easy. And I have found Amazon to be the best place for purchasing music downloads, surprisingly. The clip is removable, but I don't know why you wouldn't want it. Again, highly recommended.
The only value of this mp3 player is the sound quality. The best mp3 player was the Creative Muvo FM and Creative stopped making them after 512 MB. Now, after less than a year the battery won't hold a full charge, no matter how long I recharge it. No matter how you organize the files on your desktop, once loaded into the mp3 player it loads songs randomly into it's own folders (artists, songs, genre). It will only half charge. Somehow, the sales clerk talked me into a buying a new one instead of one of the many discounted return/open box Sansa clips. I will never buy anything from Sandisk again.
Functionality is disappointingly different than the Sandisk Sansa which makes navigating more difficult while exercising.
If nothing else, it's at least a pretty product. I took a few trips around the internet to find any way to solve the problem that would not end with having to contact SanDisk's customer service. And the suggestion that I repeat (three times) steps I had already taken in regard to the firmware and a soft reset and then reformatting the product got pretty annoying too. When I purchased this product I was interested only in an mp3 player (no need for video too) and the Clip looked perfect. I expect a new Clip from SanDisk (per the warranty) to arrive soon and plan to keep it in the box. (I went with the Creative Zen). If you buy one and the battery fails, forget customer service and just buy a new product. While it worked, this was a great product.
It took three weeks of emails to customer service to finally get them to agree that the power issue would not be fixed by multiple downloads/installs of the latest firmware and agree to the return of my product for replacement. My Clip (blue) was used for approximately 2 - 2.5 hours per day during my lunch hour and during my workout.
I purchased in mid-January and by late August the battery malfunctioned and refused to power on the player. If you buy one and it works (and keeps working) great for you.
Then just over a week after I shipped my Clip to SanDisk I received yet another email that it would be 7 to 10 business days before I received the replacement product. For my particular problem, warranty replacement was the only cure.
SanDisk customer service does not just email you, they send you an email telling you that you have received a message in your SanDisk eBox at their website and if you just follow the links you will be able to read the message and follow the appropriate customer service suggestions to repair your product. This little player was wonderful when it worked, but I won't be buying another SanDisk mp3 player, that's for sure.
The eBox was only a slight annoyance compared to waiting days for any kind of response in the first place.
I download to media player, move to sync and transfer. My first was so complicated I had to throw it out. The sound is good. This one is a breeze. The size is perfect. I have music to garden, fly, and walk the dogs. The earphones are okay. This my second mp3 player.
