Sangean MMR-77 Emergency AM / FM Portable Radio

How many portable radios are really suitable for use in the real outdoors, or indoors during a power failure. Sangean MMR-77 is a compact AM/FM radio that is just great for camping or emergency use. The MMR-77 is water resistant, has an illumination lamp plus an emergency buzzer. It is dynamo powered, meaning you can wind it for about a minute to enjoy up to 30 minutes of radio listening. This winding generates power that recharges the internal 2.4V 700 mAH NiMH battery. If you want to use this as a regular radio, it can operate on two optional AA batteries or optional AC adapter (not included). There's a built-in speaker and a jack for adding an optional earphone. Water Resistant Built-in full-range speaker Jack for adding an optional earphone

Sangean MMR-77 Emergency AM / FM Portable Radio Reviews

She uses rechargeable batteries but in case of a power outage or if she just can't get batteries, the crank is easy for her to manipulate to recharge. She's been through lots of hand held radios but this one is by far the best she's had. Nothing is perfect, such as the little alarm it has. It's small size is perfect for my mom. This little radio was purchased as a gift for my mom who suffers from Macular Degeneration.

The analog dial is what cinched the deal for me. It's about the decibel of an alarm clock. Made my mom happy and that's all that mattered. She can't use a digital tuner. But, that's okay, it still works and sounds great.

So she is homebound, can't see TV as she is legally blind, and her only read entertainment is listening to the radio. But when I saw the radio and heard it's great sound, I knew I had made the right purchase. I don't think she'd ever use it.

I really like this little radio. My only problem with it is that it doesn't pull stations in like I thought it would - but maybe I'm expecting too much. It's great during winter storms when the lights go out - so that I don't feel so isolated.

With barely a turn, it's blaringly loud - it's almost impossible to get it at EXACTLY the right spot where it will stay in the range where we can hear it. It ends up being too low or too loud. We listen to morning and evening news and some talk show programs in the evening. I bought 2 of these in July 2006. After about 6-8 months, the on/off, turn on/volume knob failed to work correctly.

We lost all cell towers on the last hurricane anyway. Nuf' said. It works off the crank, alkalines, or a/c adapter(not included). . I live in Hurricane country Florida and needed a real emergency radio not a toy, this is it.

Buy one of these instead. Love the radio, use it daily, buy it. Everyready makes an emergency battery pack for about 20.00 bucks no cranking and works great. I was looking at several emergency radios from eton, gundig, and sony, and did mucho research. This radio makes the eton/grundig emergency radios look like toys.

No regrets at all. This one blows them all away. Highly recommended, don't waste time with other emergency radios. Don't bet your life on a cell phone, the towers may be down or overloaded. I did not need a cellphone charger.

I thought I wanted a NOAA band but AM is the official emergency frequency. I found NOAA to be slow and over-rated. The quality, fit, finish, and performance of this radio is top notch. The reception is excellent.

This sounded like such a great idea, and the first time I cranked up the dynamo (for about 6 minutes) the charge lasted for many hours. After the initial charge I haven't been able to run it on dynamo power for more than a couple of minutes before it runs down, no matter how much "cranking". Nice radio, good sound and reception, but I paid the extra money for the recharge capability.
