The Fujitsu ScanSnap S510M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for Macs lets you easily convert your paper archives into a searchable digital library of PDFs. With an easy one-touch PDF creation process, nothing could be simpler: The scanner will automatically distinguish between color documents and black and white ones, automatically recognize the size of each page, automatically straighten images, and automatically delete blank pages. Included are an automatic document feeder and the ability to scan in duplex mode, enabling the ScanSnap to scan at up to 18 pages per minute. The ScanShop uses a USB 2.0 (USB 1.1 compatible) interface for wide compatibility and fast data connection. The ScanSnap supports Mac OS X 10.2.8, 10.3, and 10.4 and includes a copy of Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional and a copy of ABBYY FineReader. The scanner uses two color CCDs for scanning at an optical resolution of up to 600 dpi. The scanner-supported size range includes A4, A5, A6, B5, B6, business cards, letter, legal, and custom sizes from a minimum of 2 by 2 inches to a maximum of 8.5 by 14.17 inches. i love it. So easy to set up, super compact, and scans really fast. I purchased the Fujitsu ScanSnap for my office based on the review from a CPA firm my company contracts. The scansnap prevents clutter and cuts down on paper use. I'm now purchasing one to use at home to keep all my receipts organized on my computer (vs having little scraps of paper all over the place) and also to keep a paperless home as much as possible. This little guy is AMAZING. With the scansnap you can get rid of your copier and possibly fax machine (since most faxes go directly to emails anyway, just scan and email the PDF). It scans double-sided, in color, and scans even the tiniest receipts and pieces of odd-shaped paper, and the software allows you to keep all your scanned files organized.
The software included with this makes it really easy to use on my Mac. It's fast. I haven't had any problems with misfeeds. I highly recommend it.
For documents that tend to stick to each other, I have to smooth out dog ears and creases as best I can, cut off corners that have been stapled (not just use a staple remover), feed singly and/or watch over the scanner to clear any jams that reoccur. - quality (normal=fast, better=faster, best=slow, excellent=slower). - color mode (auto-detect, color, black and white). p.s. Clean and uncreased documents go through most smoothly. Clearing paper jams is extremely simple: use the grey latch (above the "scan" and "power" buttons) to swing open the front part of the machine, and pull out any paper. I'm not sure why Fujitsu has to have two separate models for Mac vs. Downside: Besides the price, PC users cannot use this model of ScanSnap.
"best" is not actually the best. PC users. Scanning really is more snappy with the automatic paper/document feeder, one-button scanning and Fujitsu's ScanSnap software that allows you to adjust controls for:. This machine is a pretty good solution for Mac users whose desks (and sometimes floor) have gotten lost under towering stacks of paper. Other perks: The inclusion of Adobe Acrobat Professional helps justify the pricetag. With these documents, you can practically walk away worry-free and come back when the scanning is done. For documents that have been stacked tightly together for some time, I do have to watch out for two sheets feeding through at the same time.
Although scanning with this machine is normally a smooth process, paper jams do happen. - which sides you scan (duplex, single-sided if you choose duplex, it automatically deletes blank pages). The likelihood of a paper jam obviously depends on the documents' paper quality. The small size (and lack of bulk) makes it easy to carry or store.
If you have a Mac computer, and need a scanner, this is the one to buy. It does everything a Scanner should do, with no hassle. I purchased the Fujitsu scanner and it is a world of difference. After having tried the Pentax Scanner for the Mac, it had to be returned.
Setup takes 10 minutes. This product has been wonderful in helping make my life paper free. Everything I can scan gets scanned. Receipts, deposit slips, bank statements, letters, notes, service agreements, journal entries or anything else you want to put into a cyber notebook can be made easy with this product.
