I could still burn using the enclosed Nero suite but found it a real pain. If the unit does not work with the media player it should be stated upfront. I was disappointed that when installed Windows media would not reconize the CD burner.
Electronically, the drive seemed to perform beautifully as soon as it was installed. I installed it on an aging Sony PCV-RX560 PC, and it helped bring new life back into it. The choice of two different face plate colors helped blend the drive into the color scheme of the PC (black blended in fine), and while the drive design was somewhat different than the original drive, it still fit satisfactorily into the drive bay for the eject button to work flawlessly. There were no driver problems; Windows XP recognized the drive immediately.
I also purchased the CRX320AD DVD ROM drive, and it runs equally well. I've had excellent luck with Sony PC products, so a reasonably priced upgrade seemed like a good idea. So far, the Sony CRX230AE CD-RW appears to be an excellent drive. Why not have two great running drives.
Now the entire PC runs better.
Very pleased. I replaced my dead HP CD Writer (age 5 years) with this one. Not only is it much faster than my original drive but the included Nero software works much better than the old Roxio that came with my computer.
I've made lots of cds with the new Sony drive and it works great no problems at all. First of all, I can't believe I actually replaced my cd drive, but my brother said I could do it.
I bought it to replace the original that came with my HP pc that crashed. I'm no computer geek, but this was easy to install and works great. I'm very happy with this purchase.
