Sony's Ultimate Skip-Free G-Protection technology boosts the laser pickup's shock protection to minimize read errors that would otherwise interrupt your music, providing quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks--up to 10 times faster than conventional systems. The player delivers 50 hours of playback on two AA batteries (not included) bolstered by Sony's two-position automatic volume limiter system (AVLS), which conserves batteries and guards your hearing by capping your listening level. This player supports optional Sony Nickel Cadmium NC-WMAA rechargeable batteries or optional Nickel Metal Hydride NH-WM2AA rechargeable batteries, offering great savings and convenience over replaceable batteries. Other features include nine playback modes (among them shuffle play, repeat play, and 64-track program play) and audio CD-R/CD-RW playback.

Sony D-SJ301 S2 Sports CD Walkman Reviews
It hadn't been dropped, drenched or otherwise abused, it had just been left hanging on the rail of my treadmill. It'll indicate a track for a disc, but then shut down. So when I plugged in in today, I fully expected it to run. And, although I haven't used it for awhile perhaps six months I didn't leave it plugged in and I don't use batteries. No sound, no anything.
And the thing won't work. I've owned this player for at least four years. Bummer. I was going to listen to some jazz while on the treadmill, but now I have to get a new cd player.
I'm buying the older version again. Very heavy duty, relatively water proof. It has a joystick where I would assume it is more vulnerable but no problems with mine. I bought this CD player about 4 years ago or more. I cannot make this CD player skip at all, I've tried. Really regret it. I had the one with the radio built in though, works excellent.
Even if you don't use the cd player it is a pretty cheap radio with pretty good reception that is comfortable to run or walk around with. I bought the newer version and I hate it. Got to college, gave it to my girlfriend who dumped me after one semester. I'm a 21 year old college student who's buying it again. Not concerned about jogging in the rain with it.
I also love the resume function where when you stop the CD and you start it again it picks up where you left off. The battery life is also great. I've owned several CD walkmen, including a Panasonic just like this one.
The skip protection is great too. This one is better because it's easier to program, and the controls are so easy to operate while walking. Great Job Sony.
Just like my Panasonic it's very hard to get it to skip. All in all a great product. Even after a week it was down only one bar.
3 stars. Do not buy this, if like me, your main form of CD's are CD-R's. Overall, hmm. I bought this product because it was durable (My cat knocked my last portable CD player off the table, to it's doom). This player does NOT play CD-R's. My player was bought used, so it didnt come with headphones, but the sound is great in the player.
I have actually never been able to get it to skip. Their design, however, leaves a bit to be desired. I recieved this player as a gift a little more than a year ago and couldn't be happier. They also warp rather easily. Being a cheapskate, I use the headphones that come with a player until they break, and this took nearly a year. The sound quality is nice and clear, there's plenty of bass boost for my taste, and the design is quite good.
This player's skip protection is amazing. The headphones that came with it were pretty decent. It has been dropped on many occasions without skipping at all. It is hard to keep them on one's head, and their width is not appropriate for those with smaller heads (like mine).
