Here's my recommendation - if you have a small child who drives you insane during car trips, buy this NOW. Screen is fine, remote is a great bonus, battery lasts a long time. Our 2 1/2 hour car trips to the country went from hair-pulling nightmares to relatively pleasant drives. The remote lets you play the same scene over and over without getting up.
My husband gave me this player for Christmas since my old player had worn out (it was a non-name brand, but worked beautifully for years). I wouldn't hurt his feelings for the world. I didn't tell my husband, and I know he won't notice. It weighs a ton for one thing.
I couldn't take it in my carry-on bag because it was so heavy. This player is a big disappointment. Anyway, I bought another player, a Zenith which I love. It also doesn't play DVD-R's at all, and it won't replay a regular DVD over again. Maybe I got a lemon.
I like to watch movies in bed, so earphones really didn't work well. Also, the sound without earphones is very tinny.
What sold me were all the great reviews, and they were all right. It has great picture quality good sound quality and volume. I would recommend this unit to my friends should they be looking for a solidly built Sony product. The only drawback is that it is a little heavy. The battery has great life, (approximately 6 hours ) and does not get hot when its on your lap. I did a lot of research before choosing this model.
It sure saved the day the last time we lost power, and the kids were still able to watch their favorite movie. Good choice. It is very compact and light, with a great picture (a plus, the swivel screen). I have looked at alot of the portable DVD players, and decided on the Sony. good sound, and long battery life.
It's advertised as 6 hours and probably comes in closer to 3 hours. The DVD player works great and it has lots of inputs/outputs, including 2 headphone jacks. I bought this DVD player because I started a distance MBA program that sends you the courses on DVD, so I needed a way to watch them anywhere. Still, 3 hours is plenty of time to watch any DVD, so I would recommend this player. The only disappointment was the battery life.
