Sony DVP-NS77H/B 1080p Upscaling DVD Player with HDMI Output, Black Reviews

A waste of money. Had this for about 7 months when the "loading" flashing began and a month later it wouldn't play anything at all. More and more of these players are being made like they're disposable.

I love it. It plays pretty much everything you can think of, including dual layer burned DVDs. I was looking for a nice upconverter to use with my new HDTV and I came across this one. The upconverting isn't going to be Blu-Ray quality obviously, but it definitely enhances the picture quality. Great product.

As long as you purchase & use a quality HDMI cable, the picture quality is excellent. The DVD player needs ventilation. If you use the cables included with the unit, you will not benefit from upscaling. The player can recall where you stopped watching for up to 6 DVDs. The unit is slim and only 8" deep. I've had no problems with this unit and highly recommend it.

This is an excellent alternative to anyone who isn't ready to take the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray plunge. It will get hot if used in enclosed places such as behind glass cabinet doors. The cable doesn't need to be expensive, but it must be HDMI to benefit from upscaling. It's hard to beat beat all the features for this extremely low price. I already have 2 units and am considering buying a 3rd.

This happened on every DVD we tried. We purchased this DVD player at Christmas. They did state that it might not even be the same model. We contacted Sony and were told that we would need to send it in for warranty repair. We've just passed July 4th and now the DVD player won't recognize any DVD or CD AT ALL.

And now thanks to Sony, the search begins for a new (non-Sony) player. Not much of a warranty repair on a player that lasted 7 months. The representative explained that they may not even send the original unit back to us. From day 1 the picture was very stretched vertically. The response that we got was that it would be whatever they decided to send us at the time.

(I know, that didn't make sense to me either). We learned to live with it. We really aren't picky. Now sending it in for warranty repair is another roll of the dice. What is a comparable unit, we asked.

They may send us a comparable unit. BUT, they wanted us to pay $36 + shipping for the repair to be completed under warranty.

I got this to go with my 61" Samsung DLP and it looks great. Have not compared side-by-side with Blu-Ray but regular DVDs seem to be converted to hi def.
