Superior technology from a single disc DVD player. The DVP-NS90V single disc DVD player packs impressive technologies that enhance your movie and music experience. Precision Drive System corrects a warped disc's response for fewer image errors by adjusting the lens rather than the entire optical block for more accurate source playback. Other features such as the Precision Cinema Progressive technology detect image changes at the pixel level instead of at the scan line level like most traditional DVD players do. By measuring algorithms, the DVP-NS90V adjusts for pixel behavior resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are virtually free from motion artifacts. The DVP-NS90V also offers MP3 Playback ,when using MP3 encoded discs, so you can select the perfect music folder to round out your day. Precision Drive 3 System Past generations were only able to compensate for warped discs by moving the entire optical block, which took more time and limited the amount of correction possible. Sony's new Precision Drive 3 system simplifies the process by moving the lens-instead of the entire optical block-for faster and more accurate error correction. Precision Cinema Progressive Technology Other DVD players detect image changes at the scan line level-Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the pixel level. The picture is more faithful to the source-whether film or video-because separate, optimized algorithms are used to handle the differing pixel behavior. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are virtually free from motion artifacts. MP3 Playback Playing MP3 Music on a Sony DVD player is easy. Just insert an MP3 encoded disc and press MENU. A blue screen pops up to display your folders. Scroll down the list using the remote or front panel cursor control to select the folder you want. The green files screen pops up to show the files in the selected folder. Select the file you want to hear and you're done. Finding music couldn't be easier.

Sony DVP-NS90V HDMI/SACD 1080i Upscaling DVD Player Reviews
I find the music screechy on this player, which is a cheaper consumer product meant for average ears and sound systems. If the dvd is a newer one, then you will probably like what you see from this player.
So if it's a crap transfer, you can't blame the dvd player or the TV. DVDs are crystal sharp, and you see what is on the DVD.
The remote is not very sensitive and takes a few pushes of buttons to get responses. As a music player, it's less than ok, I think.
Also, the player is agonizingly slow to do anything. I haven't seen Blu ray on my system, so I don't know if this is just as good.
I have a high quality Meridian system. This works well with my 37 inch Sanyo, 720.
It now serves very well as a guest room source for my non-HD set. A shortage of SACD material has kept this unit from performing to full potential. A move to BluRay ended its short but mostly successful career prematurely. One of the best non-HD DVDs on the block.
Starting about 6 months ago, it has stopped reading some discs if there were scratches on the disc (the discs could be read by 3 computer DVD drives worth a third of the money). When it does work, the picture and sound quality are great, but that is only about 60% of the time right now. I received this player for my b-day a year ago. It seems to have gotten pickier as time has gone by.
Picture quality is excellent and I like the pause featurewhich really holds the scene until I'm ready to resume. Controls are relatively simple and everything works as promised. I paid a bit more for this DVD player, but results have been well worth it. A friend bought one at my recommendation and is likewise very satisfied with it.
I recently purchased the Sony DVP-NS90V to replace my "slow and clumsy" Toshiba HD-A1 (Blue-Ray won). I did not really notice any slow loading problems, but as you know, I was used to the Toshiba. Another great product from Sony. The picture is just as good if not better than the old Toshiba I had. The picture is awesome via the HDMI hook-up. I am very happy with the purchase made. This is a great player that accompanies my Sony KDL-40V2500 LCD TV very well.
