Sony External USB Floppy Drive (MPF88E/UA/181) Reviews

The interchangable colors is nice and having the USB cable permanently attached is very comveniet. Some other companies don't even include the USB cable. Just plug it in and it works. It even shows up as your "A" Drive. This little jewel wasn't the cheapest external drive out there, but it carries a name I've grown to trust. How cool is that. I recently realized I had some files that were still on floppy and that my new PC didn't have a 5.5" drive.

I really miss them - and you know why. Because they weren't so delicate as everything else is today, meaning you could slide one across the desk or throw one over type of thing etc. Also trouble shooters (which I'm not one of) talk about some repair maintenance diagnostic type of stuff programs and of course the old bootable can only be done with a floppy. whatever that stuff's all about. But now - you certainly don't wanna throw anything around for fear of having it break or get ruined somehow. I of course had some old data sitting around on floppies. But of course the bottom line is - if you need it, you need it - if you don't, you don't.

Took it out of the box. The stand has REALLY sticky feet which keep the drive from sliding when you insert a diskette and the provided button makes it easy to pop it out. The computer immediately recognized the drive and I have had no software conflicts with it. Clicked on its little stand and plugged into a USB port on the back of my computer and sat it down next to the left side of the computer and it fit perfectly into the small space I had for it.

My only computer with a floppy drive died on me a year ago. I needed an external floppy drive to read my disks so I tried a. Sony External USB Floppy Drive(MPF88E/UA/181). It works great so far, problem solved.

If you are like me, and you still like to use your floppy diskettes, get the Sony disk drive. The external floppy drive is small enough to carry in my case, and it works with vista which is a God send. The sony 2X speed floppy disk drive works great. You will be glad you did. I wanted to purchase a few flash drives, but I still use floppy disk, and when a flash drive goes bad, you've lost all of your saved data.
