Sony ICF-CD815 AM/FM Stereo CD Clock Radio with Dual Alarm Reviews
I bought this for my oldest daughter about 6 years ago, and I loved it so much I bought it for my youngest daughter recently. It has held up to many years of use without a problem. We use it in each of their rooms every night when we put them to sleep. We play the same lullabies CD every night. I highly recommend it.
Be late for work one time and see how important batteries are. My new house suffers from frequent brown outs, where the power flickers but doesn't go out completely. As good as this clock is in every other respect, the lack of battery backup brings it from a 5-star rating to a 2-star rating. It even picked up some stations my previous clock radios couldn't get.
In some ways, it's like selling a new car with no tires. When I bought this Sony, I assumed it had a place for batteries in case the power went out, so you wouldn't have to reset the time or alarms. So what was the problem. The display was huge and easy to read, there were 2 alarms so couples could wake at different times, and it played CDs, had a line-in jack for my Zune, and the audio quality was pretty good. I discovered very quickly what a clock with no battery backup option is worth - nothing. I don't know what they were thinking when they left this feature off.
Recommended. After all, it's 2008 and I hadn't seen a clock with no battery option in years and years. No. There was nothing about this Sony Dream Machine alarm clock I didn't like at first.
I bought this clock radio for my husband and he loves it. it is the perfect size and has everything he wanted.
Sound, what you expect for $40. Purchased as a means of listening to MP-3 files on CD-R discs, and although it explicitly describes this capability in the product description, it has no such ability. By the way, the tuner wasn't very good at all, either. Since others have also reported in earlier reviews, it's disappointing that Amazon hasn't fixed the description yet. It sneered at the cds with mp3 files, and none of the box descriptions nor the scant "manual" mentions this facility.
And each alarm (A and B) can bet set independently to either CD, Radio, Buzzer, or Off. The two alarms are nice. The sound is very nice, and good volume range (it can get quite loud). I'm totally happy with it. The sleep function is nice too. The unit is on the large side, and the numbers very visible (takes a lot of room on the bed table).
