Sony MZ-DN430PSBLK Psyc MiniDisc Network Walkman (Black)

The MZ-DN430 has the huge capacity of a MiniDisc player combined with long battery life. Listen to music for up to 56 hours using only one "AA" battery. One standard MiniDisc stores up to 177MB of music files, so you can listen to your favorite tracks for hours. Transfer MP3 and CD files to the MZ-DN430 at up to 32X speed. The Skip-Proof design lets you play back your music virtually uninterrupted.

Looking for a portable audio solution that is affordable and easy to use? Sony's line of MiniDisc players deliver precisely that, and a lot more. With sleek urban styling and excellent shock protection, the Sony MZ-DN430 offers a great way to join the MiniDisc club. Each MiniDisc-- which, by the way, costs about a buck-- can store up to 177 MB of music data, enough space for up to five hours of music.

Using the included SonicStage and MD Simple Burner software, you can upload ATRAC3-encoded music to the device. The software supports conversion of MP3, WAV and WMA formats to ATRAC3, so you can record directly to the device at up to 32x speeds. Music uploads are handled by the MZ-DN430's USB connector, so you'll need a USB-capable PC for music transfers.

While you can convert and play your own music on the MZ-DN430, the player is also fully compatible with Sony's Connect Music Store. The Connect store offers one of the most extensive music collections online. Customers can choose single tracks or entire albums from independent and major-label artists for purchase and download.

In addition to the rugged Psyc design that protects your player as you bump your way through the day, the MZ-DN430 also has built-in "G-Protection" for skip-free performance. And because the MZ-DN430 is built to be efficient, you'll get up to 56 hours of continuous playback with one AA battery.

Sony MZ-DN430PSBLK Psyc MiniDisc Network Walkman (Black) Reviews

i can listen to music or books on cd when i walk or work out or when i am just sitting at the dr.'s office the sony md player is great.

An excelent product. I would recommend a Sony MiniDisk player to anyone still using a walkman or CD player.

Since the unit was purchased for my daughter, she has to ask permission to be logged into the computer each time she wants to make a new disk. Even more irritating is that the software can only be run if you are logged in to the administrator account. Contrary to popular myth, this is NOT an MP3 player. It only plays a proprietary format. and had to convert all of her songs again. If your next MP3 player is an MP3 player versus a Sony lock-in, your mini-disks and the data they contain are useless. We purchased a Sansa. Additionally, after you have gone through the trouble and effort of making one of the mini-CDs it is only usable on Sony products.

The PC desktop software will convert MP3 music to the proprietary format - and it will rip CDs to the proprietary format - but it's still a proprietary format. You'll have to go through and reconvert all of your songs. My daughter finally decided that she really didn't like the mini-disk format and wanted a flash memory based MP3 player. Given Sony's root-kit fiascoes, do you trust them. (We are happy with the Sansa).

Overall the DN430 minidisc player is a great alternative to IPODs and other flash memory player/ recorders. Another thing I like about the DN430 is the long battery life - up to 56 hours on a single AA battery. I found Sonic Stage to be very easy to use and navigate - in addition to recording to the minidisc player it also allows you to convert MP3 files to regular audio CD files and vice - versa and record either an MP3 CD or regular audio CD. I also like the software - however I would recommend going to Sony's website and downloading (for free)the latest version of Sonic Stage. When a minidisc player breaks you can always buy a new one without loosing all of your recorded music, whereas with the flash memory players you can loose all your music should they break or seriously malfuntion. Also the software provided with the DN430 contains an MD Simple Burner program for quick transfer of music to the minidisc player from regular audio CD's. I needed a portable player to listen to the music I had recorded on minidiscs using my Sony JE-330 and JE-630 minidisc decks and I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money so I took a chance and ordered the DN430 which I found to be an excellent recorder and player.

Had purchased for a Christmas gift to replace an old minidisc player but didn't think of ordering it until the last minute. To my surprise it arrived Christmas Eve day. I was sure it would not arrive in time for Christmas but I was okay with that.
