Sony RM-VL600 8-Device Universal Learning Remote
Let's just say I love my home-theater system. That said, I hate all those remote controls. There's one for TV, one for the sound system, one for the DVD recorder, one for my old VCR, and one for cable-TV. Sometimes it's a frustrating challenge to figure out which is which. What a pain! A new Sony Remote Control comes to the rescue! Exciting and convenient, the RM-VL600 controls up to 8 components, and with the One-touch system control, synchronizing operational status on remote and alternate components is done with ease. Also a Learning function for programming from other remotes. Being in the driver's seat of your living room sofa is made easy with the RM-VL600 Remote Control from Sony. Uses 2 AA Alkaline Batteries for up to 1-year operation Dual beem for longer distance Memory back-up DVD menu Picture in Picture PIP control where applicable

Sony RM-VL600 8-Device Universal Learning Remote Reviews
The learning feature was very cool, tedious but cool. back to cable back to T.V. over and over again to change the volume i realized that although cumbersome, it is sometimes easier to have multiple dedicated remotes. After switching the remote form T.V. This remote did everything I expected it to do and then some. Unfortunately I jumped into the universal remote scene expecting it to immediately fix all my multiple remotes problems. It worked well with most of my components and was seamless in it's set up.
At first I was a bit upset because it did not control all of the functions I wanted.well, a bit more reading (yes, I'm one of those guys) and voila, I was programming the remote with ease and within 5 minutes had ALL of the functions from my cable remote added to this one. The Bad:. I really thought I was getting something that would have freed up one control, I never really believed I would only have to use one remote for everything.well, I believe now. Also, I got tired of switching from one remote to turn on the TV, another to play/watch DVD, then my cable, etc. No problem, I suspect I can "teach" my new remote every function within an hour.I just need to find an extra hour. If you have read this far and did not buy at least one of these, you are doing yourself an injustice. Sure it's a PITA, sure some might knock it down to 4 stars, but when you see how many codes there actually are (and yes there are some Philips codes), then you will see why I did not knock it down.
So, once I read the instructions (I have never used a learning remote before) I was just amazed. Okay, so I don't really have anything bad to report. I can't imagine how much better a more expensive remote would be, but frankly, I have everything I need in this one. I have a couple of TV's whose remotes have not been able to survive my children's abuse. I am so thrilled with this remote, I highly recommend it. I saw so many good reviews on this that I bought two, figuring I could return them if I was not happy. Also, you need a little patience, not much, but a little.
I have not enountered ANY problems yet (I still have a couple of other things to program, so if I find any, I will let you know). There was no code for my Philips HD/DVR, so this is the one I will have to set up manually. The Good:. First a little history:. You need to read the instructions and all will be made clear. No problem, just a couple of buttons, and a few seconds and you can manually "teach" the remote. I figure I am just unlucky enough to have bought a DVR that there is no code for.
At first you might find that the code you enter does not completely control the machine as the original remote.
I was ready to return the product when I found this site:. Emailing Sony did not produce an answer. For example there is no code at all for VIZIO TV sets though they are one of the most popular sets on the market. Calling Sony Support was not helpful either. The list for codes included with the product is inadequate.
The code is not learned at all, 2. It helped solve my problems and now I am on my way to productively use this product that does a lot for a great price. The code is transmitted but causing multiple unwanted actions. http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-sony/list.cgi. Sony RM-VL600 8-Device Universal Learning Remote.
So you have to use the remote to remote learning method. Two problems occur: 1.
It's nice to be able to control everything with one unit too. It's amazing. Point it at your old remote and turn it on and it learns to do everything the old remote did. It works with VCR/DVD player, TV, and Satellite box. This Sony Rm-VL600 Universal Learning Remote is the best remote control I've ever used.
Those things are just way overpriced and overcomplicated for the average home theater system in my opinion.
I have mine set up to turn everything on/off with one button and then a couple other buttons to switch the inputs for DVD/TV/etc.
For $25 you can't beat it.
It also has the ability to program up to 4 macros (A, B, C and D) which are what really make this remote worth the money.
It does everything I wanted it to do and then some without all the expense and complicated software that goes a long with one of those Harmony remotes.
Anything additional can be programmed by simply pointing the two remotes together and having the remote "learn" whatever button you want.
This remote has made my life with my home theater system a LOT easier.
Definitely well worth the money.
It does a great job of programming most common functionality using the different codes based on the devices you have.
