If you want the house-shaking, window-rattling theater experience, better get something a little bigger. In my mid-size living room (20x14), they begin to destort at VERY modest levels. The center channel is very good for the package price; produces more than adequate vocals. Rear surround's sound great too.until you want to pump the volume up on that favorite action scene.
I am running some JBL book shelf speakers for the fronts for now. The speakers are driven by a Sony STR-DG910; 7.1.
Also plan to add a sub-woofer and maybe some different fronts. To complete this set up I plan to up the speaker wire size from 18ga to something 14ga or larger.
I have since connected the speakers and find they do enhance the overall sound quality of DVD's and TV. That should improve things.
The overall volume is not as loud as I thought it would be. Any other ideas.
I think I was a little naive prior to this purchase on what I was actually buying.
The center channel speaker works very well and the surround speakers hang nicely on the wall (speaker wire included, too. Not monster cable, but it'll do for the time being). There probably are better surround-sound speakers out there, but for 100 bucks, what's not to like. Overall, a good deal.
If you are looking for a set of great sounding speakers and you don't want to spend a lot of money, look no further. They may be small, but they pack one hell of a punch in terms of sound quality. They have amazing clarity and sound awesome for both movies and music. I bought this set to replace my Jensen floorstanding speakers and man was I impressed. For $100 it is well worth it.
I have this set paired with the SS-B3000 bookshelf speakers. The rear speakers add great depth to movies. These speakers are a match with other Sony products. EDIT: I just upgraded my receiver to the STR-DG720, even more amazing. I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean 2 to test things out, it's like you're in the movie. The center channel is crisp and clear. I've never experienced that kind of sound before. These speakers sound amazing compared to my old speakers.
