Sony STRDE197 Stereo Receiver
Keep yourcomponents connected with the STR-DE197 Receiver. Features include AM/FM Tuning with 30 Presets, 5 Function Input Selector and a Remote Commander Remote Control.
Home theater may be the rage, but there's no getting around the need for affordable, high-quality music playback, and Sony's STR-DE197 stereo receiver can be a huge help in that department. The integrated amplifier pumps out 100 watts per channel across both its 2 channels and uses discrete output transistors--that is, transistors in place of cheaper and lower-quality integrated-circuit chips--to ensure high-quality music presentations. The receiver features an FM/AM tuner with 30 station presets (20 FM, 10 AM) and a UniCommander remote control with phosphorescent glow keys for easy access, even in the dark. Separate A and B speaker outputs (stereo left/right) let you listen to the same program across two sets of speakers placed in different parts of the house. There's no phono input, but the unit's 4 stereo analog audio (left/right RCA) inputs accommodate, for instance, a cassette deck, a VCR, your cable-box outputs, or a DVD player. (Make sure your television has sufficient inputs for the number of video sources whose audio you plan to route through the receiver.) A bass-boost circuit enhances your program's low frequencies for greater musical or cinematic input. A switched AC outlet lets you plug another device into the receiver, conserving wall sockets and powering up the plugged devices at the same time as the receiver. When the receiver powers on and off, so also will the component plugged into the power outlet, provided you leave its power set to "on." Listening at night? Plug into the receiver's .25-inch headphone jack so you won't wake the family or neighbors. What's in the Box Receiver, RM-US185 UniCommander remote control, remote batteries (2 AA), FM wire antenna, AM loop antenna, user's manual, and warranty information.

Sony STRDE197 Stereo Receiver Reviews
The only complaint I have is that the volume control requires a lot of spinning to change the volume level, but the remote works better in that regard. Comparably priced to large national retailer's but without the hassle of dealing with their lousy in-store service. Typical Sony quality, a well-made receiver, seems to have ample power with no clipping, controls are fairly easy to use and understand. Nothing special but above average power for this price range.
We hooked all of them up and with the A/B switch can listen outside or indoors or both at the same time. is correct. No spot for a sub-woofer but the sound is so superior we don't even miss it. We have two outside speakers and two indoor.
The sound is fantastic both in and out. At this price and shipped here in 2 days, FANTASTIC. I don't know what anyone else is talking about with low ratings. Pat in Kingston, New York
It does have bass boost which makes up for it. J.M.
I'm pushing 3 ways by Linear Dynamics, and these are very sweet for acoustic intruments such as piano, horns, and strings. It's clear and free from all harmonic spurs and extraneous content. This comes close to the performance of my old receiver and I'm satisfied. But first impressions are satisfactory. One thing is outstanding the tuner. For the price, this unit delivers very well. I bought one of these today, and it's quite adequate. This baby tunes FM exceptionally well.
Time will tell. The only question now is how long will the unit last. My old Vector Research hybrid (solid state + analogue) sounded sweeter, but the Sony STR-DE197 does a fine job for what it costs. I had to beef up the bass to +4 and treble to +6, then hit the bass boost button to match my old receiver amplifier.
I have no idea why any company would intentionally design a product to be difficult to use but for some reason Sony thought that would be fine with this product. There is no way of telling by looking at it what level the sound is set at, or the balance, or the bass/treble. You can only access that info by actually pressing or turning the relevant knobs. But the worst thing is the black-on-black design.
It's not. Consequently using this receiver requires bright lights shining on its face. Don't put this anywhere you don't have enough light. Whatever it's specifications in the end it's a very poorly designed product. I'm sorry I bought it.
It's not possible to see just how bad this is on a website, you actually have to look at the thing itself. I bought this for my office to replace a Tecnics receiver that had bit the dust. Here's this machine's biggest problem IMO: the design makes it impossible to see what you're doing when actually trying to use it. The buttons are microsopic, black against a black background and the tiny type that explains what's what is apparently dark gray on black.
This is a great receiver for a simple 2 speaker stereo set-up. If hooked up to a nice set of speakers, it has great sound.
