Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.

The Basics

  • Processor: The 1.73 GHz Intel Pentium T2370 dual-core processor delivers additional computing resources and help expand the PCâ??s capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing. You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly. Each core shares 1 MB of L2 cache, and they have a 533 MHz front-side bus. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

  • Hard Drive: The 160 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) offers enough to room to hold a digital audio library of over 26,000 songs and still have room left over for movies, games, and a large collection of software. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.

  • Memory: The 2 GB of installed DDR2 RAM (PC4200, 2 x 1024 MB DDR2, 533 MHz) maximizes the capacity for this notebook, and the additional capacity helps boost the amount of available video RAM that's shared with this notebook's video card.

  • DVD/CD Drive: The dual-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents. It features the following speeds: 4x for DVD+R DL, 4x for DVD-R DL, 8x for both single layer DVD±R, 8x for single layer DVD+RW, 6x for single layer DVD-RW, 5x for DVD-RAM, and 24x for CD-R/RW. It reads DVD-ROM discs at 8x and CD-ROMs at 24x.

  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard 86-key keyboard (2.5mm stroke and 19.05mm pitch) and electro-static two-button touchpad. Playback controls include play/pause, stop, forward, rewind, AV mode, mute, volume +/-, capture, and display off.
Screen, Video & Audio
You'll enjoy razor-sharp graphics and widescreen movies with the 15.4-inch WXGA high-definition screen, with its 1280 x 800-pixel resolution. The XBRITE-ECO technology delivers brilliant colors and stunning clarity with efficient power usage, and it features an anti-reflective coating to minimize reflection and ensure a beautifully clear image from any viewing angle.

Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, which uses shared video memory (up to 358 MB allocated from the system memory) and provides Windows Vista Aero interface support and enhanced 3D graphics performance--delivering over 2x scores on 3DMark 06. Intel Clear Video Technology provides outstanding video playback with sharper image quality, increased clarity, and customizable color controls. It also enables enhanced visual quality of interlaced content on progressive displays.

Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
This notebook has an integrated Atheros 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. Sony VAIO VGN-NR330E/S 15.4-inch Laptop (1.73 GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core T2370 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Granite Reviews

Running out of juice isn't scary because once you plug it back in, you're right back where you started like you had paused everything you were doing(however pressing the power button wont just shut it off). Connectivity hasn't been an issue, battery life is average and the warnings/popups are helpful. I received the vgn-nr330e as a birthday present so all the annoyances that came along with it weren't mentally tallied as dollar signs flying out the window, but for the listed price nobody could be expecting something tailored to their every whim. I can safely say I'll be trusting Sony until I'm confronted with a reason to doubt the brand and until that time I encourage anyone who wants a computer they can enjoy AND use for work to give it a try. I was also relieved to learn that if the keys are forcefully detached(new puppy with large, stupid feet)they pop right back on again, which may be true of all laptop keyboards but was a relief nonetheless.

and I'm really enjoying my vaio. I have to say I'm not a Sony hater, haven't yet met a troublesome product(not counting the walkman that refused to play anything "techno", but hey can you blame it). I'm enjoying the crystal clear picture on the 15 inch(extremely reflective if off but 100% glare free if on)screen. The touch pad is great if you turn off the 'tapping' feature, otherwise it's more touchy than tappy. I actually enjoy the offers, windows vista and norton were the most helpful and I bought them both when the free trials ran out.

Corel paint is painfully tempting but way too expensive for someone who lived their whole life with no desire to photoshop anything.

I only paid 549 for it but would say it is still worth the 779 its normally listed at i highly recommend it to anyone considering purchasing a laptop. This product is amazing and well worth it.

It was easier to just buy a new copy of windows Vista and overwrite all their trialware than it was to remove it all (which you never fully will). They will say anything that sounds peachy, delivery dates, custom configurations, etc. Their TV's are great, but they just don't really care about you, their bread and butter. I'm done with them, there are plenty of good alternatives. It's true. I had heard the rumours too: that once you buy it, they don't care. The bloatware that comes with it is pretty terrible too. I had given them another chance recently and it's the same story.

The laptop didn't have the components it was listed as having and there hadn't been a driver update for the system in over a year. By Saturday, I had requested an RMA from Amazon and Monday saw it winging its way back. This is probably a good laptop for doing word processing and maybe giving presentations, but its lack of support doesn't speak well of Sony in general or this laptop in specific. I received this on a Friday.

I'm through with Sony forever. Unbelievably, her charger does not work on my Vaio, and vice versa. I own a Vaio and so does my girlfriend. Sony has produced different memory sticks for its video cameras, compatible maybe with who knows what, another converter to buy and carry. Further, the Vaio does not accept SD cards so you have to carry a converter, plus, most ridiculously, my Sony video camera's memory stick does not fit Sony's memoery stick. Meanwhile, no matter whether I turn off the wireless, the Sony feels compelled to keep warning me that my wireless is not connected.
