Speed Racer: The Videogame

Get behind the driver's seat with this Speed Racer based on the Wachowski Brothers film with its garage of combat-ready rides and see how you fare in "car-fu style" action. Take on the role of the characters from the film, getting behind the wheels of each character's signature vehicles to experience firsthand the film's high adrenaline, combative racing style. The film itself is based on the classic series created by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida. A live-action family adventure, Speed Racer follows the young racecar driver Speed in his quest for glory on and off the track in his thundering Mach 5. Choose between three different variations of the Mach 5, each one equipped with several gadgets that are unique to the car like grip tires, rotary saws, a periscope, a deflector, and auto jacks. All of the gadgets have a specific purpose. The rotary saws are used to cut down any trees that get in the way. By activating the auto jacks, the Mach 5 can jump over obstacles to discover shortcuts. Discovering the shortcuts is the key to getting the fastest times on all three tracks and mastering the Normal and Endurance modes. If you play the game well enough, you will be able to unlock new vehicles, including Racer X. Get behind the wheel and go, SPEED RACER, go!

This is the true film experience in your control. Race at top speeds and battle for the WRL cup as you take on your opponents

Speed Racer: The Videogame Reviews

Cons:. Pros:. - No weapons. - Moderately refreshing to be able to drive cars in an unconventional way. - Tracks are interesting. - Music is weak.

For the price I did not expect much. So clearly the AI is cheating. No original Speed Racer tune. - The AI for the cars latches onto you too tightly. Even if you are driving slowly they never get very far ahead and even when you enter Zone mode and blaze past everyone, invariably somebody is always just behind you. You can only shunt and flip your car.

- Voice acting is rather weak.

If they make a second game(which, in my opinion, I feel they won't due to a poor box-office run), maybe they can correct those mistakes. Come on, WB Games. It's challenging(boy, is it ever) and it's one of the best movie tie-in videogames I've seen thus far. Speed Racer: The Videogame is a fun and exciting game that captures the look and feel of the movie. That boring 'techno' music just doesn't cut it. You can race as Speed or over 15 other characters in races through amazing futuristic tracks featuring loops, corkscrews, jumps and more from the movie.

It's the closest thing to an F-Zero game on the Playstation 2 as you're going to get. It's a great game. They've got a Wii, Playstation 2, and a Nintendo DS version of this game; why not a Playstation Portable version. Second, why no "Speed Racer" theme or music from the movie. Who wouldn't want a version for their PSP. Overall, Speed Racer: The Videogame is an excellent game despite the flaws I listed above. Third(and perhaps most importantly), they could've had ways to improve your car's handling-steering-acceleration and speed(like in the Need for Speed or Gran Turismo games)so, if you wanted to finish a race without having to change a racer halfway through for a better car, you could. Smash, jump, flip and spin with massive "car-fu" combat against your friends in multiplayer.

Make no mistake about it, readers. It's intense. First off, they could've gave more story as to what happend with Speed Racer and company(friend or foe) at this year's races. While I love this game, however, there are ways that I felt they could've improved the game.
