this book was exactly what was needed to continue in this game, the only problem I had with this is that it never showed up till I filed a dispute. Joseph Ricci
The follow on games, Outcast and Academy, were pathetic sequels to this greatest game ever designed. The cool Zone, not as it is now. The game is that addictive.
Every other game feels like slow motion compared to JKDF2. Skill levels have been reached beyond what the game designers could imagine.
For years a few hundred of us played darn near 24/7 on the Zone. This Game is the game of all games. Get this game and get on Mirc server Enter The Game, Channel #narshaddaa and you will see just how cool multiplaying this game is.
Here it is, 10 years later and I am still playing it.
My brother and I went through High School playing this game. INTENSE is the word. I give this game the ULTIMATE rating. This game had about a 5 year strong online mulitplayer following.
I haven't played a game yet that was so intense on so many different levels. It blended all of my crazy childhood fantasies into one. No one who played this game on the Zone will ever forget being force-gripped to death while an overhead lightning fast enemy like BSBMercyman or IRN_Gen_Patton shot them with a concussion blast and force destruction subsequently slicing them dead with a lightsaber before either one of them hit the ground.
THIS IS AN INTENSE MASTERPIECE.
A must buy if you can't get enough Star Wars.
There were different ways to accomplish tasks depending on how you had allotted your Force upgrades, and many, many ways to be killed or fall over cliffs, etc. The ability to switch between 1st and 3rd person perspective was a wonderful choice when deciding to wield the lightsaber or any normal projectile weapon. The soundtrack was of course outstanding. Dark Forces 2 neatly enfolds these 2 concepts into a game, while allowing the player to choose to remain loyal to good via Light-side powers or giving in to a more basic instinct for using power as a weapon with the Dark-Side powers. While this may seem semi-standard on most FPS games these days, it was not at the time this game was released and greatly added to the feel of immersion and the feel of greater control over the character. If you can still find this game, I highly recommend it as a great example of a successfully done Star Wars PC game.
This game was a beautiful example of what a culmination of turning Star Wars into a 3rd person shooter could be in Dark Forces, and then coupling the natural progression of desire to spend time exploring the Jedi lifestyle. The range of environments and the feeling of accomplishment when gaining a new Force power was ramped up at a well-paced level. There are many things to like about this game: The graphics, while dated now, were pretty for their time and there were many moments of surprise and enjoyment in the large environments. I especially thought the idea of having to battle Dark Jedi Masters as you make your way ultimately to the Valley of the Jedi was a nice touch and made the game feel more personal than simply adding a random, slightly more difficult boss character to the end of each level. The only stumbling blocks to the game come in the form of having to repeat fights with certain Dark Jedi Masters until you finally discover their one weak point.
