Starship Troopers Reviews
It definitely isn't that easy, as you will quickly realize. Like Half Life there's an introductory stage where you have to wander around the ship and get used to the controls. So RTS games tend to be the games I gravitate towards the least, I find them fun. As the box advertises, it seems one of the greatest challenges the developer faced was creating the intense swarm function that would be the real nature and challenge of dealing with the bugs. but only for so long. When I saw they turned this into an FPS I was immediately enthused.
Anyway, there is a bit of an underlying story to tie the missions together, but it really captures the feel of being in the Mobile Infantry and being dropped on a planet to complete single missions by having everything being somewhat disjointed. I wouldn't expect ground breaking interaction with the environment or the highest quality graphics imaginable, the developers weren't going for that. Despite the fact that the second film was terrible I decided to see how well it translated into a first person shooter. Lots of bugs and that's what we got. Now that I've completed this game, I really think I got more than my moneys worth.
The games design overall was pretty nice and it even includes video clips from the film here and there to really make it feel like the game ties into the movies as well. The Marauder armor, unfortunately, doesn't look the same as what we got to see in the RTS. If they could at least generate a sub-par story that brought the user into the war they would likely succeed. The challenge isn't in the difficulty of being able to kill your enemy; it's in the sheer number of the enemies.
It feels a bit like Halo in the sense that you're the only one with this special armor that can regenerate its shields and everyone is surprised to see you. The one misgiving in functionality is that the game doesn't automatically save at certain check points; instead you have to use quick save frequently. I personally found the graphics to be quite decent. The games story line is better than the direction the franchise seems to be heading and it really captures the intensity of being in the field of battle. In terms of missions it feels a bit like the RTS where you are dropped into an area and required to complete a specific mission. When you are first dropped onto the planet to start your first mission the bugs feel pretty easy to beat.
The only thing I didn't like was the couple of timed missions in the game. Frankly there are so many bugs you don't have a lot of time to sit down and appreciate the environment, so play this game for what it's worth. The levels for the game don't disappoint in this regard, they're huge and they take a long time to finally complete. You have to go find your marauder suit, which is armored and can take more damage than the rest of the marines.
Cutting down the general rank and file warrior bugs is pretty easy with your gun that never runs out of ammo and just needs to recharge when it over heats. There is very little contiguous story line like we find in games such as Half Life, Halo, or Marathon, for example. While this would typically hurt my interest in a game, it was just so much fun cutting down hordes of bugs that it held my interest through the whole game. I'll let this minor quibble slide as the game ended up being a lot of fun. I think they're on par with the original Half Life at the very least, probably a bit smoother and better than that.
They wanted bugs. It may not have the most replay value out there, but it sure is a fun game to play while it lasts. Ultimately ammunition conservation becomes a challenge in itself. Getting a Starship Troopers game, you shouldn't expect to do more than kill lots of bugs and if that is your aim, then I highly recommend this game. The RTS game was quite a bit of fun, but as with most RTS games they lack the in your face intensity of an FPS or the engrossing story of an RPG.
As the game progresses you face much stronger bugs and the challenges become much more difficult to complete, especially since your unlimited weapon can't penetrate some of the bug armor. That's more of a pet peeve of mine; I really just hate having to complete timed missions in general. I actually found this fairly difficult on the easiest setting.
This was actually a fun game. Lacks graphical "polish" that the big name shooters have. Btw, it works on my system (Vista 64, nvidia 9800 GTS).
And now this game is cheap, so give it a try. I have to say the combat is better than most shooters nowadays. Environments and textures could have been more detailed.
I thought Halo combat was fun. This is just as fun if not more.
But this game does deliver where it counts: guns that are very fun to shoot and monsters that are very fun to kill.
This game pits you against hundreds of bugs, sometimes with help, sometimes without. Overall: Very great game, deffinetely worth buying, and showing off to friend the amount of slaughter you can lay down. The game always has you on your toes, and most the time never has a dull moment. Very heart pounding. Sometimes your put against a really easy enemy, that takes forever to kill, which can create a very dull fight. Also some very pointless times, like a door is stuck, so you have to wait for a mechanic to come and fix it, no bugs attack, nothing for you to do, just stand around and wait, pretty pointless. Variety of arsenal, and enemies, which you have to pair each other together to be the most effective.
Pro's: Massive amount of killing, with some hard mobs thrown here and their. I deffinetely suggest this game, specially for its price. Con's: Their are some rather pointless points, and overly lengthened. I would love to play the Multiplayer, but not enough people really play. If you want a game where you feel extremely powerful, this is deffinetely it.
Starchip troopers broken down is simply a frist person shooter in another world. The graphics of the game were over all well done as well as the "SWARM engine" the developers used was fun to watch. Other than this the condtion of the game it self was brand new. (this comment form playing games that when in power armor allow you to jump higher and move faster). I would have to say that there were two things they could of done more on was fire and the people. This was a bit of a let down in terrms of gameplay and possed few to no challenges, other than a low jump capabilities wich probabley is the only bit of realism in the game.
Ugly, flat looking bugs (sprites. Bad. Ugly character models. so I guess they didn't want any involvement in this title. Hundreds and hundreds of annoying squeaks.
Hope you like primary colors. I played it for a good 15 minutes, chuckled to myself and uninstalled it. Grainy Video from the movie. but the same could be said of a landfill. Wooden voice acting.
I really wanted to like it. so old it's new) who make annoying squeaks. Too bad. Sony picked up the film license and lost alot of money at the time. To it's credit, there are some decent looking landscapes, and the Bugs swarm in a nice fashion.
No Me Gusta. Jaggy indoor areas that look like PS1 graphics.
