SVAT GX5201 Wireless Portable Video Monitor with 2.5-Inch LCD & Night Vision Security Camera (Color) Reviews
Once you get it set, it should be fine, but it takes a while. This item failed miserably in almost every aspect. Perhaps it would be good for something else, but for what we needed it for - FAIL. If you're spending the money for this - spend a bit more and get something better. We bought this monitor to help us keep an eye on our daughter as she transitioned from a crib to a toddler bed. As a test, I put one of her stuffed animals around 18" from it, and it picked it up, but was struggling too much past that. I understand that night vision works by amplifying available light.
3' range, max. Not both. 5) Pros- the daylight view is good. You can attach up to 3 cameras total (maybe it takes that many to get decent night vision). The company cheaped out on the sensor and LEDs. This is absolutely ridiculous.
There was constant static that I couldn't get rid of. Especially given the bad camera mount - it makes a nightly ordeal of setting up the camera for bedtime. I even tried the ferrite plugs, and nothing. 1) The night vision is worthless. YOU HAVE TO FLIP A SWITCH ON THE CAMERA TO SWITCH IT FROM DAY TO NIGHT VISION. Good luck with that in the middle of the night. For anything other than mounting on a crib to watch an infant, this unit is worthless.
So, to sum it all up - poor night vision, no thought into usability, and bad technical engineering. That's really was the tipping point for me. I understand that there are IR LEDs on this unit to help out in that respect. 4) Interference.
none of the buttons are actually labeled. That kills the purchase outright. Wrong. You either have to have the thing tethered with the cord, or put batteries in it. We had it set up around 8 feet from her bed, and it showed nothing but black. 3) Monitor unit - It's just bad.
2) Camera mount - as the previous reviewer mentioned, the camera mount is very light, and easily moves around. The user interface is bad. None of the wireless devices in my home operate on the same frequency, so there shouldn't be an issue, right. What I don't understand is why a company would make a night vision camera that only throws light around 3' or uses a camera sensor that isn't sensitive enough. Maybe I do cost.
Keep in mind I live in a standard cookie cutter housing development, have a wireless network and cordless phones in my house when considering my review. Not So Good:. As others mentioned, poor design on the battery placement (you have to take the batteries out to us the a/c adapter) - but maybe just purchase an extra a/c and forget the battery idea was my thought. But - if you live in a neighborhood (without the neighbors that have updated wireless stuff), have corded phones and internet, maybe this product is for you - but I am guessing that person wouldn't be reading this right now.
Messed with my wireless network also.
Good:.
Friggin' static.
I'm just saying.
Ugh.
SO, the not so good definitely outweighed the good in my book - I'm on the hunt again.
I tried the core suppressors as someone else recommended, but still have the static.
Maybe to try the guardian angel.I just want a product that provides a good picture with sound but without static.
Slim design, easy set up, motion sensor mode only turns unit on when movement in the room (very cool when you have this by your bed at night and don't want a bright tv type screen staring at you), has multi room function with extra cameras.
This product did not work well in our house, almost as soon as I left our child's bedroom, we got static and the screen rolling, and with each step down the hallway it got worse. There is no way I could have slept with this monitor on in our bedroom with all the static. I tried various settings and still had the problem.
In case you forget to select the correct channel on the monitor, then you keep loosing signal. The other problem is with the channel selection. When the monitor is within a short range, the picture quality is reasonably good, even though the colors are not that accurate. But the results I see are nowhere close to that. First of all, it works. The biggest problem is with the range.
The camera is so small and light weight that it's better fixed on a wall than being kept on a table or something. Audio reception is alright. The product description says 300 ft and ideal is 100 ft. Night mode is okay as well. The monitor stand is a good thing and the monitor can also be wall-mounted. But I won't call this a real problem since selecting the right channel solves the problem.
The picture reception is good for just about 50 ft, no more than that.
The sound, and automatic audible alarm were even worse. I returned it 2 days after I received it. I turned off all of our cell phones, cordless phones, and internet (per the Tech Support's request), and the reception was still poor. I purchased the SVAT GX5201 after reading the favorable reviews.
Who actually lives in a house without cordless phones or wireless internet, anyway. There is a single pencil-tip thin hole on the bottom of the camera ball which is the microphone. Don't be fooled by the favorable reviews - I think in the case of this product, they are "planted" reviews. To get the audible alarm to work, we had to manually touch the video camera to get the microphone to pick it up. The reception was horrible - even when I was in the same room as the camera, the reception was poor.
