Sylvania DV220SL8 DVD / VCR Combo Reviews
I would buy it again in an instant. It is cute, lightweight, easy to install, and easy to use. This product works great.
MISTAKE. I purchased this unit during the '06-'07 Christmas season. I was looking for an inexpensive unit, since I heard (and continue to to this day to) that DVD/VHS combos tend to be very touchy. Bottom line; I wouldn't own another of these models if I were PAID 70$. The few DVD's did play well, and the functionality was good. I had a fair sized VHS collection that I wanted to be able to view, while not owning many DVD's, so for the price I figured I would give it a chance.
I moved my belonings myself and know for fact that the player never even endured the slightest bump while it was repacked in the factory packaging during the move. Well, after I moved to a new residence, after plugging in the unit the VHS section began to spit back out any tape that I put in. But the VHS never worked that well, even tapes that I had with little to no play on them yielded not much more than static. Now, I cannot even use the DVD function as well as the pathetic VHS side of this unit. Then the unit began to make a loud clacking noise and power off. So I resided myself to having a junky 70$ DVD player.
There is no tracking adjust.
If you're looking for a cheap, short term solution until you get something nicer, then this is your unit. I had to take the unit apart just to retrieve my DVD. Nothing. Otherwise, don't bother. If you want to impress your friends by using the term RF Modulator at your next party, this is your unit. Then, after two months of use, the DVD player gave up the ghost.
So, I wasn't surprised when I found out there was no antenna connection. Bought this VCR/DVD combo at deep discount so I wasn't expecting much. Had to hook up an RF Modulator (and before this, I had no idea what an RF Modulator was - so, I guess I did learn something).
The machine plays perfectly whenever I use it. Although I am 'electronically challenged' when I called the help number the whiz-kid on the other end of the phone know precisely what was going on just by telling him what appeared on the screen.
Never will I buy Sylvania again. I couldn't turn it on and it ate a tape. Unhappy can't begin to describe my feelings towards this product. It made a puttering noise after I took out a dvd I had just watched and that was the end. A few days later, the entire machine died. First, the dvd player died.
