It is not terrible, but I think that they could have done a much better job with it this time around. The interaction between some of the characters is comical, well others is just disappointing. Overall- I would recommend this game, but try another Tales game first If you are a RPG fan, or an avid Tales fan though, this is a great game for you to buy. The enemies are not floating around the screen this time, so random encounters are back.
Tales Of Legendia is not as great a game as Tales of Symphonia or Tales of The Abyss. The fighting style is a straight line- you can not decide which enemies to attack.
The musical score in this game was a bit disappointing. The sad thing about this tales game, is the lack of towns and dungoens.
The wonder chef/baker returns again in this game with all new recipes. The characters are well thought out- each one has their own special personality, and a side quest of their own throughout the entire game.
The battle system for this game, is a bit like Tales of Symphonia's. Instead of cooking at the end of battle, you need to wait untill the main menu screen appears to be able and cook.
The map is small, and not as alrge as the other tales game series. For the most part, you need to return to the same town over and over again.
+The game is presented beautifully. Pros:. It lacks the multiplayer component of other modern Tales games, and just doesn't feel as fast paced or fun as the others. +Characters are very likable, with good dialogue.
I didn't start using it until late in the game, but its amusing, and does massive damage for a "standard" arte. Cons:. To be totally honest, Tales of Legendia is, in terms of overall features, a disappoint compared to other Tales games. The two are separated, and as Senel continues to follow Shirley's tracks, he learns a lot more than he could have ever imagined. -Not everyone will like how different Legendia is from other Tales games. Really, I can't say this enough, its just chock full of beautiful and emotion filled songs.
-Combat is sluggish compared to Tale games'' signature fast-paced hack n slash nature. +One new and interesting combat mechanic is Senel's ability to grapple enemies. -Story is generally uninteresting. Legendia may be a sharp departure from typical Tales fashion, but in some ways, its a good thing.
Tales of Legendia follows Senel Coolidge and Shirley Fennette (might have spelled that wrong) as they crash land on a strange island, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. -No multiplayer. +The soundtrack is one of the best I've heard in a game. The incredibly colorful graphics display the characters and environments in a very fantastical fashion. The island is actually a large, ancient ship with quite past. -Random encounters The story, while hardly mediocre, isn't as long or epic as Tales of Symphonia's or Abyss's.
At least, not in my opinion. The end result is, playing through Tales of Legendia feels like some sort of cheerfully wonderful dream that you just dont want to end. In addition, Legendia has what is, in my opinion, the very best soundtrack in the series. The biggest plus about this game that I can conclude is that, in terms of presentation, the game is beautiful. The main playthrough is, however, supplemented by a series of character stories that delve into the characters' past and help flesh them out. Though the game doesn't bring too many new things to the table, it still maintains a few pluses.
Unlike most RPGs, which add tons of characters to the group of heros and then ignores them for the rest of the game, you get to know all the characters and watch relationships develop between them, pushing you to finish the game just to see what happens next. Yes, this games has a lot against it: crap graphics, a 2D battle system that consists of little more than button mashing, character outfits so weird looking that I was convinced the main character would turn out to be a robot, no voice acting for half the game, and its the only main tales game not made by the tales team. On the other hand, this is one of the few games that really pushes character development. The only exception to this is Shirley, who is boring, has an annoying voice, and is scarily obsessed with the main character to the point of trying to kill ALL humans just because he says he doesn't like her.
-Great music. (one of the pitfalls of the NA version is that they only voiced the first story arc). This game's story is easily the best story of all JRPGs. I actually picked up the JP version of this game because there's more voice acting. -Classic tales gameplay. I tear'd up during each of the game's chapters. Buy this game. -Great story.
But that is to be expected for ports to the playstation. Also some slowdowns between menus and whatnot. Good product. I noticed some slowdowns in places where there was a lot going on. Originally for dreamcast. No Problems.
