Macs are notorious for having not enough USB connections.this inexpensive device solves the problem and has a great color.looks nice. A nice little present for my daughter.the only mac user in this house.
Plus it looks good too. I've heard a lot of sketchy things about various 4 and 7 port USB hubs but Targus seems to get it right every time. Always works efficiently and I receive sufficient power out of all 4 ports at all times. I now have two 4 port hubs from Targus (including this particular one) and haven't had one "crash" yet.
It's like an irritating dropped call. BUT, I have not found any item that will stay connected for any length of time. Bottom-line, it DOES connect things to your computer without additional software, and it is a plug and play (which is really great). I tried plugging it into my laptop and then connecting my wireless mouse into it and it worked for a few minutes and then appeared to lose connection. And hopefully you are not in the middle of downloading, or backing up anything and have something corrupted as a result of its instability.
Other's report that it seems to work well with their desktops, I have not tried it in my desktop yet. (But I don't need it there anyway).Ultra Mini USB 2.0 4 Port Hub Sorry Targus, either this one snuck past quality control OR someone needs to take another look at why so many people seem to have a problem with it connecting to LAPTOPS.
Once I started plugging other things into it, it kept disconnecting and reconnecting things to my computer. I also tried plugging my 500 GB memory external hard drive into it and it seemed to keep that connection ok, as long as i didn't put anything else into any of the other ports. The frustrating thing was that I was downloading podcasts and it kept messing it up.
I have purchased several Targus items in the past and have had no problems.UNTIL NOW. The Targus mini USB is great by design, nice and compact, and each port is far enough apart to fit any standard size USB plug side by side (which is what several other people complained about other similar products). I plugged in my iPhone charger and it appeared to keep losing my connection and i kept seeing my phone disconnect and reconnect to iTunes while it was sitting there charging.
Sure you can call them back and have a good connection when you do, but you know it is only a matter of time until your call gets dropped again. I only have 2 USB ports in my laptop and with all the new fun gadgets that connect to your computer now; I just needed a few extra.
The price is great and it works fantastically. As a history teacher who uses technology in the classroom on a daily basis, this 4 port hub is just what I was looking for.
This hub is great because you get USB 2.0 speed for all the attached devices. The cord on it is REALLY short, however, so I don't really recommend it for desktop computers. It's really for laptops.
