TEAC DV-516E 16x Internal IDE Black DVD-ROM Drive Reviews

I have tried and tried to get this working with no luck. The computer will not recognize the drive - I have downloaded the instructions and followed them to the letter - it was easy enough to replace the drive that was in there - getting it to function is another story. I know it is connected because the drawer opens and closes - but no drive shows up - even though the original had been in the same slot.

The DV-516D worked well enough, but I decided to return it because of the deceptive packaging. I ordered the "TEAC DV-516E 16x Internal IDE Black DVD-ROM Drive" and got a box labeled "DV516E/KIT/B" but inside was a drive labeled "DV-516D". The DV-516D has a 256KB data buffer, not the 512KB data buffer that I expected when I ordered the DV-516E.

I highly recommend this drive. So I bought this drive, and as usual they done a good job with this product. I have to replace my old HP drive twice and it keep failing even I don't use it this much. The drive comes with POWER DVD XP player. The Drive itself is very quit.

Since, I have good experience with TEAC products before. I bought this drive as a replacement for my old HP DVD drive. You need 2 minutes to install the drive. The drive installation is very easy. I have two CD Teac writers for almost two years now without any problems.

This is a reasonably-priced RETAIL drive. I think they have done a good job with this product. TEAC is attempting to enter the optical drive market. Second, although the bezel is black, the internal tray that loads the CD is still beige.

Why. Do a check on the model and you will come into a famous site that reviews optical drives. So why only 4 stars. TDK, Samsung and Sony are coming out with their own cool design. I did not hear any noise or stability issues experienced from spinning media. It has a cool black bezel which would complement anyone's case that isn't beige/PS2 in color. The size in an industry standard so you will not run into any problem installing the unit.It has good online reviews in reading media. First, I would appreciate better design for the bezel.

If you had more money to spend, then get one with better design like the above mentioned manufacturers or a Pioneer slot-loading drives. I would appreciate an all-black design.Overall, you will not be disappointed with the performance and price. Althoug it performs great, it looks like any other generic optical drive. I use this as my main optical drive and even to install my Windows XP Pro without any problems.
