Teac GF-680 Console Stereo with 3-CD Changer, Turntable, Cassette Deck, and AM/FM Tuner

Growing up in the 50's was a lot of fun. Swing was evolving to something a little edgier called Rock 'n Roll. Buddy Holly and Elvis ruled the lives of young Americans. My parents had this beautiful, wood record-player and radio combination a whole lot like the TEAC Nostalgia GF-680, and when my friends came over we grooved endlessly to our favorite "licorice platters" and Rock radio stations! Main features include: Bass Boost System 3 Preset EQ (Rock, Pop, Classic) 2-Way Speaker System 45 RPM Adapter & Remote Included Output Power - 15W x 2 Speakers - 5.25 Woofer, 2 Tweeter Dimensions - 35.1H x 15.4W x 14.9D Weight - 43.17

Nostalgic music fans that look back fondly on the radio and TV consoles of the '40s and '50s will delight in the Teac GF-680 stereo system, which combines modern components with a retro design. The system is housed in a classic wooden, four-legged cabinet with old-time speaker panels on the lower front. Above the panels, however, sit all the modern music complements, along with a couple that hark back a few decades. The device is centered around a three-disc drawer-type CD changer for enjoying modern digital formats, along with a three-speed turntable that lets you listen to your original Bowie recordings on vinyl. Users can also revisit the era when pop singles and jazz cuts ruled the airwaves by speeding the turntable to 45 or 78 rpm.

Of course, any good classic console also needs an AM/FM radio, and the GF-680's is particularly reliable thanks to its quartz PLL synthesized tuning and the 40 station presets (20 AM and 20 FM). And should you tire of CDs, LPs, and the radio, you can always pop in your '80s cassettes for a big-hair flashback. The dual deck also dubs from tape to tape and records from the other audio sources.

The most significant modern touch comes in the form of the two-way speaker system, which fortunately sounds nothing like the scratchy speakers of yesteryear. Each speaker boasts a 5.25-inch woofer and a 2-inch tweeter, with a bass boost system adding extra oomph to the lows. In addition, the system offers three preset equalizer settings (for rock, pop, and classic) to round out your music's audio profile. The console system measures 15.4 by 35.1 by 14.9 inches (W x H x D).

Teac GF-680 Console Stereo with 3-CD Changer, Turntable, Cassette Deck, and AM/FM Tuner Reviews

The CDs slip off the track too easy and become dislodged.had to remove back to get one out. Radio is fine. The size is nice for where I needed music, near my kitchen in dinet. I haven't tried the tape player yet. I don't like the record changer not being automatic as I need to be aware of when the record is finished to change it myself.

All this said I guess I will buy another one because it does serve it's purpose.

I purchased a second one and the tape player worked for about a dozen go rounds.

I purchased one of these 2 years ago and had to return it as the tapes didn't work.

Not possible to have such thing repaired locally and the cost of shipping it back to Sony in CA along with repair costs are prohibitive so it's in the basement awaiting the next bulk trash pickup.

I just hope the next one last more than two years.

The device then developed other intermitent problems.

Would like the ability to control bass/treble independently rather than presets for sound patterns.

Follow-up: This one works perfectly.

A upgrade model would give it 5 stars. However a model with seperate bass and treble controls would fit the bill. The Teac GF-680 is good for the price.

Very satisfied with the Teac GF-680. it's easy to operate and has superb sound. One minor problem is that the cassette function symbols are difficult to read because of their location.

You need to crouch down and use a flashlight if it's in a dark corner of a room. This stereo is great for anyone with a vintage style decor. But for anyone that doesn't want a modern stereo sticking out like a sore thumb amongst their antiques and collectables, the small hassle is well worth it. Also, the controls on the front are hard to read. Everything works really well, although I will probably add some very small external speakers to project the sound a little better. The plus is that it comes with a remote, but I chose to memorize the controls.
