You can chalk it up to good timing and a heavy dose of video-game synergy, but this 1990 hit remains the box-office champ of independent films, with a total gross of $135 million. Of course the Turtles, who hatched as comic book characters, are also the stars of a phenomenally successful Nintendo video game, so it was a given that the movie would be a hit with its target audience of rabid young video addicts. This is what comic books fans call "the origin story," in which we learn how a foursome of small turtles were mutated by a green radioactive goo and turned into human-sized turtle crime fighters. Their large rodent mentor, Splinter, teaches them to master the martial arts. They're also gifted pop musicians, by the way (think of them as amphibious Spice Guys), so they can rock the house while they're cracking a crime wave with the help of their cute friend and television reporter April O'Neil (Judith Hoag). The script is terrible, of course, but countless millions of children don't seem to care, as long as the Turtles keep ordering pizza and dispensing their wisecracking brand of justice. --Jeff Shannon

Hi turtles fans! Great movie, love it, got it, forcing my kids to watch it asap.
I shelter my 7 year old from a lot, so i bought a few movies to start letting him be exposed to more. This was a favorite when i was a child & it is one of his now also! A little intense at times, but i didn't feel it was ever "too much" for him. TMNT are great!
This is a very durable movie, which is doubly surprising when one considers its potentially campy premise. With the voice talents of Corey Feldman, Kevin Clash(Elmo on "Sesame Street"), and featuring Elias Koteas, it is surprisingly good.
While I missed characters like Baxter Stockman and Krang as a twelve-year-old, even then I knew that their omissions serve the movie well. It's better to not include the characters at all than to attempt poorly executed versions of them.
Also starring character actor James Saito as the Turtles' enemy Shredder, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is surprisingly solid.
I think this movie is fantastic! I've always loved the turtles, but I keep having issues with the dvd itself. This started about a week ago when I bought this DVD at Walmart in the five dollar bin. I was watching it and it was fine but I noticed that every now and then, usually right before a scene change it would skip for about half a second. Not only that, but when I would try to rewind it, the DVD would just freeze up and no other function would work unless I turned off the DVD player. Naturally I thought this was a glitch so I returned the DVD and exchanged it for a new one, but I had the same exact problem with that one. After the third DVD from Walmart and the same problem I just returned it, thinking they got a defective batch of Ninja Turtles DVDs. Well I've ordered one from Amazon, and of course, same problem. A lot of you are probably thinking that it's my DVD player doing this, but it isn't because I tested it with some of my other movies, and they rewind and work fine, it's just this specific title for some reason. While those are two very minor glitches, I just think it's annoying that I can't rewind the movie if I've missed something. So basically what I'm trying to do with this review is find out "are all copies of this DVD like this?"
Product was is excellant shape, as stated it would be. It arrived on the exact date as I was told it would. I'm very pleased with supplier and will purchase from again.
