Terk Low-Profile Indoor Antenna (TV5)

Terk Technology TV-5 Low Profile Indoor Antenna - You might think an indoor TV antenna is as outdated and useless as the 8-track tape, but think about it for a minute. If you have satellite TV you know the joys of having your service knocked out during a storm, cable TV sometimes goes out of whack as well, & some people simply do not want $50 a month in television channels. All are great reasons to pick up an indoor antenna like the Terk TV-5. This specific antenna has a great low profile design which stands just 4 3/4" high and fits inside most television cabinets. In addition to that, the built-in video selector is a great convenience - letting you switch between broadcast TV & a video source (ie: DVD, VCR or video game).

Terk Low-Profile Indoor Antenna (TV5) Reviews

I figured if the Terk didn't work good I could always return it and get the Winegard instead. I got 16 channels very good without even turning up the gain control. The only other one I considered was the Winegard SS3000 which costs about double that of the Terk. I only have to rotate it once about two inches for my only difficult channel, otherwise I don't have to move it at all for the best picture. "Ghosting" is less than about 5 percent on the worst channels. "Pixelation" occurs rarely, usually during the daytime hours, only on my worst channel (the same one I have to rotate for).

I'd give it a 4 rating, since I wasn't able to compare it in actual operation with the Winegard (so it might actually be a 5 without me knowing it). I did a lot of research on many antennas before deciding on the Terk TV5. I don't have any cable or satellite service at all which is why I needed this antenna. I get about 18 channels (most all digital)with a very good to great picture on my fairly new LCD HDTV.

I am not sure if it is better than the other plug in antenna we had but this one works great. THis works great with the new digital TV converter box- we tried the new zenith converter from RS but it didn't work so we got the other RS one and then the antenna came at the same time so we hooked them up and were ready to go- we hadn't had any good tv in quite some time and now it is like we have basic cable.

I think that you need to fuss with it far too much, and it works no better than my last antenna. I guess I expected more than it could deliver. I thought from the other reviews I read that this antenna would be more powerful. I am disappointed but maybe the dream was larger than the reality.

This antenna performed worse than my old cheap rabbit ears on both UHF and VHF and both analog and digital. I live 10-20 miles from TV stations in a hilly area. Also, the positioning of the elements is loose, so once you find a decent position, it is really easy to totally bump out of alignment.

Great reception. I discovered this little beauty a couple of years ago. It works just as well in my basement. The digital converter box makes the signal even better. I even installed one on the basement television.
