Tetris Plus

Most attempts to tamper with the basic gameplay of Tetris have fallen flat on their faces, but Tetris Plus is actually a decent take on the timeless classic. You can tackle a basic solo game of Tetris, challenge a friend in two-player mode, or go directly to the best portion of the game: puzzle mode.

In puzzle mode, players control blocks as they descend from the top to the bottom of the screen. As they fall, you can spin blocks so that they land next to corresponding colors at the bottom of the screen. Gameplay is just like the original only with a few major twists. The bin that holds the pieces at the bottom of the screen starts out partially filled, while a little professor character climbs on top of the stack. Your job is to clear lines of blocks so that the professor can reach the exit at the bottom of the bin before a spiked ceiling smacks him in the head. Two players can also duke it out in puzzle mode, sending cleared lines to their opponent's bin. This isn't the best version of Tetris we've ever played, but it does still manage to offer a lot of entertainment for its low price. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Several types of play
  • Good two-player mode
Cons:
  • Mediocre graphics

Tetris Plus Reviews

I play it on my PS3 without any problems. This game is one of my old-time favorite versions of Tetris. It's a little different than the original Russian version, but the game play is quite amusing.

If you want a tetris game for your Playstation this is by far still the better choice. On the other hand Tetris Plus had the more colorful classic mode, the puzzle mode with 100 different puzzles not to mention the option to create and try your own puzzles and the vs. Unlike Tetris Worlds where you may get different modes of the game it didn't feel like I got as much to offer or only so much of the feel of Tetris when I tried this game for myself. mode to test your skills against another player and all had the exact feel and challenge of tetris as I remembered it. When it comes to the Playstation there are games that have improved when they were remade for the Playstation 2 and there are games that look and play far better in the Playstation 1 version and Tetris Plus is one of them.

I play this game all the time and often challenge family and friends to try and beat me. Although the original Playstation may be out of date for some people, mine still gets used constantly. Tetris will always be a classic. Puzzle mode is my favorite. I love this game and have had it as long as I've had my Playstation.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Once in a while I will give the Puzzle mode a go, but mostly stick with the classic. My husband and I play head-to-head in the classic mode which is really what I bought it for. I have pretty much given up on trying to keep up with new consoles, I've had my PlayStation for about 11 years and still break this game out once a week. I have loved playing Tetris ever since the classic NES and have had various handheld versions since they came out (I have even downloaded a version to my cel phone).

This newer version with the PLUS added to the title, has a couple of other ways to play tetris. You can compete with a 2nd player, playing simultaneously. Just as good as i remembered playing it on the first nintendo 20 years ago. This game is very addicting. Really adds to the fun.
