Somehow, without the fatherly image of Bing Crosby, or the svelte croon of Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett, or even the reverent innocence of Perry Como, Andy Williams managed to make a holiday institution! This collection of Christmas songs is full of standards normally identified with other artists, but armed with an average tenor and lots of exuberance, Andy Williams made them his own. His "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" is the most exhilarating version of the song there is, and even his "White Christmas" and "O Holy Night" are more than just passable. I would purchase other cds from Amazon. It was well packaged and arrived within an acceptable time frame. The Andy Williams Christmas cd is a wonderful holiday music selection.
this Christmas album is the way I always remembered him and I love it. Every song is top quality. If you love Andy Williams in his heyday, you will love this album. I previously bought a Christmas album of his, not realizing it was recorded about ten years ago, and sadly he just didn't sound that good - he couldn't carry the notes at the end of each line, his voice was weaker.
Glad to find this one, the old LP is all scratched up and I'm afraid wouldn't be the best sound quality if converted.
You are going to love the CD. My favorite track is "O Holy Night." There's not to many singers that can top Andys version. Just hearing Andy Willimas sing"Happy Holiday,The holidaySeason"brings back such great times.I think of my Grandparents,decorating there CHRISTmas tree,and looking forward for Andy's yearly CHRISTmas show.
Andy's voice is smooth and satiny, and the arrangements are refined. Happy Holidays/The Holiday Season is great; of course It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year is an all-time classic. This year, I picked up records from Kristin Chenoweth, James Taylor, Randy Travis, Ray Conniff, Herb Alpert, and this one. The remastering sounds great to me. I thought it would be kitschy and kind of funny to play at Christmas this year. This CD has been out for 4 years, and after listening to it, I'm mad that I waited this long to get it. This record will stand with any in your collection. I usually buy 5 or 6 Christmas albums per year.
Sometimes its a new release, while other times it may be a collection from my youth. Really, you can put the whole thing on (it's just over 30 minutes) and not find a clunker. And while it holds tons of nostalgia, this is a terrific recordand it holds its own with anything I've bought this year or in the past ten years. Highly recommended. My dad had it back in the 60s and we played it hundreds of times in the 60s and 70s.
